I haven't seen the race, but the recaps made it sound like he fell behind precisely because he pulled up lame, not the other way around.

Problem is they don't show his face until towards the end ... He doesn't pull up per se, but he definitly accelerates very well and then goes into reverse after 20 - 30 meters .... Like he is just trying to maintain ... Strange looking race ...
And even though he ran well in Sydney, I'm starting to wonder if his problems may nothave started at teh US Trials in 2000 ... INjured there in the 200 and has been injured every season since ... Yes he won in 2001 but injured at the end of that race as well ... And definitley has not been the same since that race ... _________________ Conway

That's largely why I've been skeptical of his ability to fully come back. I know the long string of injuries all too well...

From here on, I see Mo as someone you wonder if he'll throw off the form chart, but he can't be penciled in as a favorite.

Well we know he is still capable of sub 10 ... As long as he can do that he is dangerous .. Favorite or not ... _________________ Conway

Agreed. You have to wonder what he'll manage, and you know he's always a threat... But it seems he's falling into Frankie Frederick's old age category: good in one-off invites but not able to navigate the rounds of a championship meet.

Yeah ... But hard to count them out ... I felt Mo had a chance up until the leg went ... Of course 3 years ago THAT wouldn't have mattered either !!!! Frankie is holding on through the rounds so far ... Semis will tell the tale with him I think ... _________________ Conway

I saw the race on ESPN, and to me it appeared that he pulled up because he knew he was done. After 50 meters he was about 7th and had the normal look on his face (puffy cheeks and breathing out hard). Maybe he was injured, but I truly believe he just can't lose without making a scene/having excuses. |
