Beats me. Severe muscle cramp? Kidney stone?

Whatever it was, it had me contorting like a fish out of water...

I did the 6x hill workout again today. Probably a tad slower on average than last time, but I had a couple really good ones in there. #4 was the best, when I successfully raced a SUV the whole distance. I was feeling it on #5, though...

Right at the start of the cooldown, I had another of those rear rib cage cramps. It was a mild one, which I've had a couple of since the two major blasts the first day. My new claim to fame: I can run hard enough to make my lungs cramp! Smile

Recovered much better from the hill sprints than last time and got in a solid 4.5 miler continuous today, followed by some sprint drills. I think I might hit the track for some intervals this weekend.

I went up to the track today to do a workout, but there was some junior meet going on at the time. I decided to just do 100's in the park instead. Had a decent tailwind, but I think that was more than negated by the rough footing and my lack of speed. Rolling Eyes Did 8x100 in 18.1, 16.9, 16.0, 15.5, 15.5, 15.3, 15.4, and 15.1. You can see pretty clearly where I hit the fine line between warmed up and maxed out... Probably a second faster on the track, all considered. I wanted sub-15 bad on that last one, but the wind turned on me the last 30m and I came up a wee bit short.

1.5 mile brisk warmup, sprint drills after the 100's, .5-1 mile cooldown.

Dan, I see that you are trying to out--do Ben Johnson. Did not he race against a horse and a car over 100 m? Wink

Going way back to page 2 of this thread, I got stung again yesterday by a yellow jacket. Orkin sprayed one of their nests in the ivy last week, but it didnt get them all. I decided to work on clearing out the ivy as best I could, so I fabricated my own beekeeper mask and bundled up with two layers of clothing all around, sleeves duck taped to gloves, one oair of pants tucked into boots, one outside, etc. I was ~25' from the known nest, working on one section first, when I feel a burning pain on my hand. I look down and see a bee on my knuckle, digging that stinger in as far as he can -- right through my work gloves. Did a bit more work, then went inside and doubled up on gloves and did more pulling. Kept working until my hand got too sore. Looked at the han again and the entire thing was badly swollen. Can't move my fingers at all, and the swelling is about halfway up my forearm now. No run for me today. Sad

How is the swelling today? You ok?

Why did you remove the Russian lady? We could have had some fun with that one! Very Happy

I'm starting to regain limited use of my hand. The swelling's gone down a tiny bit, but it extends halfway up my forearm now. Spent most of the past 36 hours asleep, although that could've been due to the 20 or so Benadryls I took at the get go...

That's the 2nd such Russian lady post. Numbskulls like that always wander along from time to time, post a few times to test the waters, then disappear. I'm not interested in setting a precedent to allow that kind of crap.

The past 3-4 weeks have seen an assortment of left leg problems -- general heel bruise, then achilles, then knee -- but it finally seems to be dying down after lots and lots of stretching and a couple hours a day of icing. My last couple runs have had some good pep, with today being the best, including a strong hill push in the middle. Today was the first day my achilles felt pretty good throughout (usually takes 1.5 miles to loosen up) and felt fine through some bounding drills at the end. Feels better than before the run, actually.

The annual HS Alumni run should be coming up in the next 2-3 weeks. I've missed too much time to be where I had hoped to be at after last year's run, but hopefully I'll at least be able to run it pain-free and feeling like I've got a tiny bit of a base.

We should have started keeping track of our respective injuries when I first came to the forum.

I wonder who would have won that contest? Sad

Depends on what criteria is used to judge by. If it's duration or severity of injury, you probably have the edge. If it's frequency or volume of injury, I win hands down... Not many people can boast of averaging 2-3 injuries at a time on a bi-weekly basis year-round, 15 years and counting. Neutral

I'm in that catagory, too. I hope all of us are over the hump as far as injuries.
Right now, I seem to be holding my own, even with all the speed work I did over the last two weeks.
Dan, I hope you are able to make the Alumni Run. I always look forward to that race, now.
