Well, Imeant ranked in the top ten as in TFN rankings ... And Greg Foster did so 15 times ... Perhaps Iwas not as clear as I should have been since we typically talk about time lists ... Sorry ... _________________ Conway

Some more questions, all sprint related as usual:
1. Who ran the first one day sub-10/sub 20 double?
2. Who first ran two legal sub-10s on the same day?
3. Who first broke 10.00 yet lost?
4. Who ran the first wind-legal 9.7 hand time?
5. What is the fastest prelim 100m ever run?
6. What is the fastest any male 100m runner has run in failing to make a final?
7. What is the fastest male 100m time run in a B race?
8. In a C race?
Should keep you busy for a bit!

Justin, I don't have time to research ... I have to work !!!
OK ... Here's what I can give you off the top of my head:
1. that's easy .. It's Calvin Smith, Zurich '93 ... 9.97/19.99 ...
2. I think that is Carl Lewis from the 88 Olympics ...
3. Mark Witherspoon in Indianapolis in 87 ??
4. Powell/Lewis/Adeniken in a tie ???
5. Boldon 9.87 in Athens in 97 I think ...
6. I think that is Lee McRae from windy Indy ... 10.05 for 5th in a semi ..
The others will require research andI don't have time right now ... But I'll be back !!!! _________________ Conway

OK, here's one to make an educated guess at:
The 10 most prolific sub-10.00 men (wind assisted included) have run, respectively, 53, 33, 31, 29, 27, 18, 18, 17, 15 and 12 times of 9.99 or faster.
One point for the name, one point for the correct position!

Without your underlying list of data (worth its weight in gold, I might add), I can only guess with the greatest of uncertainty...
53: Maurice Greene
33: Tim Montgomery
31: Ato Boldon
29: Frankie Fredericks
27: Carl Lewis
18: Donovan Bailey
18: Obadele Thompson
17: Dennis Mitchell
15: Linford Christie
12: Bruny Surin
Am I close???
Dark horse candidates include Jon Drummond and Bernard Williams. I think I have Obadele too high, but the others look pretty good...

You have 5 completely right.
You have 2 more who need to be swapped with each other to be completely right.
You have 1 right man but with the wrong total.
The other 2 on your list don't belong at all.
Very good first try!

Wow, not bad! I guess I'm better at these things when guessing plays a heavy role.
53: Maurice Greene
33: Ato Boldon
31: Tim Montgomery
29: Frankie Fredericks
27: Carl Lewis
18: Donovan Bailey
18: Dennis Mitchell
17: Linford Christie
15: Jon Drummond
12: Leroy Burrell
Is that better, pretty please? Probably 9 out of 10 at best, as I have 2 guys with a new total, not 1 like you said.

OK ... Does the facct we have a new question mean my other answers were right ??? This one is interesting ... Hmmm ...
53 Mo Greene
33 Frank Fredericks
31 Ato Boldon
29 Carl Lewis
27 Tim Montgomery
18 Dennis Mitchell
18 Leroy Burrell
17 Jon Drummond
15 Bruny Surin
12 Linford Christie
OK ... There's my best guess ... _________________ Conway

Very close, both of you. The correct list is:
53 Greene
33 Fredericks
31 Boldon
29 Montgomery
27 Lewis
18 Bailey
18 Mitchell
17 Burrell
15 Christie
12 Surin
You got some of the others right Conway but not them all...

So close and yet so far... After looking at Conway's list, I was starting to wonder if I had Tim a couple spots too high. Too bad I dropped Surin on the revision...

Dang .... I had BAiley in then out ... Then in then out again ... Had Lewis ahead of Tim and wasn't going to change but had the others right at one point ...
OK ... What's next Justin ??? _________________ Conway

OK ... How about :
7. 9.90, Mo Greene in Lausanne '01
8. This is probably wrong but I am going to say 9.79 in Athens by Mo ... It was a 3 race and not a C race but not sure about their ranking methods ... _________________ Conway

First sub 10/sub 20 in a day - yes, Calvin Smith in Zurich, 83.
Two legal sub 10s in a day - Carl Lewis, 9.96 in ht and qf, 88 US OT in Indy, 15 Jul 88.
Sub 10 but lost...Cole Doty, 9.98 with 11.2mps wind (behind William Snoddy's 9.87 in 1978). Legal - Lewis's 9.93 behind Johnson in Rome 87 or Smith's 9.97 behind Lewis in Zurich 88.
Legal 9.7 - 1st Powell 9.7, 2nd Lewis 9.7, 3rd Adeniken 9.7, 4th Clark 9.8, 5th Jefferson 9.9, Houston 95. Not a tie though.
Prelim - yes, Boldon 9.87, or a pair of windy 9.79s by Andre Cason in ht and sf of NC in Eugene, 93.
Failing to qualify - yes, McRae 10.05w 5s2 OT 88, or Vincent Henderson 10.06 5s1 US OT in 96.
B Race - Boldon 9.97 in Athens, 99. He also took 9.86 for 2nd in A race. behind Mo's WR.
C race - Fredericks 10.10 in the same meet. It was noticing these amazing B and C races that made me post the question.
