Oh you have ot discuss the drug issue ... What I meant was to leave out the personalization of it ... Just admit that it is thre and move on in the discussion ... Knowing of course that the topic has to be brought up ...

The shifting of money is something that would have ot be looked at since there is a very limited amount floating around in the sport ... Obviously any sihft that creates positivity for the sport should be considered a positiive shift ...

Micah I agree with you ... Track get drivel in most papers ... What is your local paper ??? Are you near Atlanta ?? Reason I ask is that there is a pleathora of colleges in the Atlanta area and finding track & cross country news should not be dificult in that area at all ...

I am not close to Atlanta now but I did live there for 10 years and the Atlanta press was no better than anyone else in covering any aspect of runnning.

Even with the Indoor National Championships there for several years and the Olympics in '96 the press only covered them for the few days they were there and nothing else. Peachtree gets good coverage for a few days before and after but high school and college and the rest of the running world gets the usual minimal coverage.

At one time Atlanta had the two events listed above and Gwen Torrence, Ann Marie Lauck, Jeff Galloway and Trish Waller living there and it still could not become a track town. Embarassed

That's too bad ... I wasn't overly impressed with the paper during the Olympics ... Nothing like Los Angeles in 84 .... I still have all my dailies from 84 - they were THAT good !!!

Sacramento did a good job withthe Trials in 2000 ... They started with articles in the paper right at the start of the track season ... They had local athletes writing columns - Dragila, Lewis (Brian), Hudson ... And kept it going through the end of the trials !!!! Unfortunately once the Trials were over track went back to its normal place .... I will say they do an adequate job of HS track each year ....

Awareness does tend to start with the media ... Dan what is Eugene's press like ???? They tend to have a very informed populace ???

Eugene's sports section (Register-Guard) is probably one of the best in the country. Consistent coverage year-round, and a barrage of coverage surrounding big meets.
