One thing I forgot to mention is that I had also read where more and more runners are using complex training methods year around. Long runs, hill training, quarters, all done on a weekly basis.

What the heck is a marathon season ? According to my lights, marathon season is 14 months a year, year after year.
Training programs come in "the flavor of the week." After all, coaches have to justify their jobs and authors have to sell their books...but it aint rocket science .
You run as many miles a week as you are able (without destroying your body), you keep your pulse rate up in the "aerobic level" (140 - 170) during most of your training, you do 5% to 10% at race pace, and enter as many marathons as you can afford to attend. Mad Dog Mike www.training2run.com |
