Quote: | In the 1500m world record, he wasn't rabbited on the last lap... |
You're joking, right? Do you not understand how rabbiting works? If someone were strong enough to rabbit him on the last lap, they'd be in the race, too! The point of the rabbit is to get him through the first 2-3 laps while expending little enough energy that he can still take a record shot at the end.

I thought rabbits were those who lead, he wasn't lead on the last lap. Anyways, think about it-the people in front of the pack are going at almost the same speed as those in the back. A rabbit runs slightly faster than everyone and is about 2-3 strides in front of Hicham. I think it's overrated, 2-3 extra strides doesn't kill. Why don't they just run fast if they want to break the WR, like I do on my own records. In the mile WR for example, Tanui dropped out with about 2 strides in front of Hicham, yet Hicham was still able to go on. And the idea of going out fast is also overrated, because if go about 2 mph faster than normal, that won't have much effect on how much the lungs are flooded with oxygen. Most runenrs just don't have that thinking of "run or die." And it actually works, because I've done it. When I've raced other runners, on the last lap my whole mentally changed. I wanted to kill someone or go suicidal, and I did it-I killed him in the race no matter how painful it was I wanted to see hell at the end, and indeed-my vision down the track on the last 10 meters turned to ligh, nothing else. After I won that race, I had to go home from school because I had blurry vision and a bad headache. And the rabbits were very close distance wise to Hicham, they just gave up physically. _________________ My favorite all time race: Hicham El Guerrouj - Prefontaine Classic Mile 2002 http://youtube.com/watch?v=4YykUTHzOL8
