No the order would be: Coaching, Coaching, Running, Coaching, Running, Teaching Economics I consider myself an AP TRACK and XC Teacher
BTW: this is probably the wrong board but I broke 3:00 at the Phoenix Marathon in Jan !!!!! Next year I will break 2:50 |

Speaking of the calculators, I've been itching to get one of those new 8.9" netbooks and load up my pace calculators and performance predictors on them for portable use... Those things are the size (and weight) of a hard cover book.

I've been using an interesting combination of the following: Dan's Calcs, Purdy Book, McMillan Calc, and VDOT chart. Like most coaches I use each when it fits what I want to believe
Dan you Calcs are great for pacing and race predicting. Thanks!! |

Always glad to see the toys coming in handy!
I've followed along a number of threads on the DyeStat HS forums where someone will argue with a prediction and point to my calculators as evidence, having no idea who's site they're linking to...
Have you used the Williams Pace Calculator? It's one of my favorite tools. Bob Williams is an assistant coach at my old high school and is the coach of Elijah Greer, he of the 1:47 last year as a junior.

I have one but I do not use it. I like to "do the math" and then check it vs one of the above. I don't even know where my williams calculator is.
I use your predictor calc because I can interpret it from "the top or bottom" [800 predict time from 400m or 1600m] because you use different systems. Purdy is not as accurate from 400 to 800 or 800 to 1600 but very effective from 1600 up. |

Yeah, you definitely get a feel for which column gives the best predictions for certain event ranges.

I have not used the Williams one but now I am interested in seeing it... I have used a lot of McMillan and Daniels VDOT's in the past - I like the bredth of the McMillan ones and the fact that they give more of a range. _________________ The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat. |

The Williams calculator is fantastic for quickly figuring paces for any track event, covering most any time range. It's pretty solid for road distances, too, although it seems to be slightly less accurate there in terms of how the marks all line up.
