Well I will agree to disagree with both of you Conway. I agree that the USA has been mediocre at best - but I think to say that about Kennedy is not really fair
What is forgotten a lot is the fact that these rash of sub 13's are only recent history If you take pre 2000 when Kennedy was at his best and woul dyou believe that there are only 5 individuals that have more sub 13:10's
Komen - 20
Haile - 18
Koech - 15
Hissou - 15
Nyariki - 15
Kennedy -14
Yes we were bad but that should not take away from what Kennedy did...
However what is also important is it looks like the US distance is coming back... hooray for Teg and I hope we have a few others fairly low in London today _________________ The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat. |

I didn't mean that as a negative against Kennedy at all ... Moreso against the rest of the US distance running community ... We should have had (and should have) more Kennedy types running under 13:00 ...
I understand that "genes" have something to do with the ability to reach those levels ... But we should have a better "machine" in place than we've shown as far as being able to develop the talent that we have ... _________________ Conway

Agreed for sure I think we are getting back there - I don't think that 13:04 is the culmination of this but it is a start down the right path. I hope that we just see more and more of our youth going towards these types of meets sticking their heads in it so to speak.
I think also the buzz you hear aroun dthe HS kids has also been important as well and Lanana's much published return to big time T & F. Hopefully we are in a good time for Distance and for T & F in general. _________________ The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat. |

Our top guys need to be in these meets week in and week out ... Not gonna get any better unless they compete with the best ... Their bodies need to learn what that "zone" feels like ... Or they will never get better .... _________________ Conway
