After seeing Micah's list, I gave all the selections from Anchor a try. Anchor Steam and their Porter are very good.

That's a great list Paul. I tend to prefer the English/Irish beers too. When it comes to American beers the Anchor Steam seems to be my favorite followed closely by the Sierra Nevadas. Have you tried the Sierra Nevada line?

Yes I have, but I haven't had any lately. Bridgeport's copper colored Ropewalk was a nice drink last Summer. Costco has been selling cases of Bridgeport, Sierra Nevada, Widmer, and Deshutes for some time now. It allows you a chance to get into a hand crafted brew for under a buck a bottle. Thumbs Up

I enjoy a good stout but my tastes lately have been running toward the pale ales. I also like the IPA's but you said they were a little on the hoppy side for you?

Have you tried an Old Speckled Hen? If you can't find one I would recommend the Six Pence Pub on Bull St. in Savannah. Wink

A good Vitamin G (Guinness) for me is all I need, especially if I am in Ireland at the time!

I will have to get a list together though of some others some Paulaner No 1, and Fullers ESB are two that pop into mind

Yes, in general, I am not an IPA fan. The taste is a bit too bright for me. Sam Smith's Pale Ale is an excellent Pale in my opinion. A good all around beer that can be had with about anything. It doesn't score real high with beeradvocate.com, however.

I'm adding Harp, Boddington's, Bass, and a couple of German beers to my list: Bitburger and Pinkus organic hefe-weizen.

... and a Czech beer called Urquell Pilsner, it is sooooo good!

I asked a guy at a local market that carries a lot of beer and wine if they had Old Speckled Hen. He just laughed at me. Needless to say, I don't frequent that establishment anymore!!

Oh, also mixed some black and tans with Boddington's and Murphy's Irish Stout. That was awesome.

Drank so much beer this summer, I forgot to eat. Lost 5 lbs. Running improved. What more is there to say?? Wink

OK, to get faster, I knew I was going to have to go down to Salem to train. To keep up with the twins, I was going to have to lose weight. To lose weight, I would drink more beer. That's my logic and I'm sticking with it. Wink

Paul, I like your new additions and your beer diet! I got to give it a try. I had my first Pilsner Urquell in 1986 at Fat Fonzie's Beer Garden And Delicatessin in Sacramento, CA. It was a glorious evening.

A couple of weeks ago Mrs. Ward and I were at the Prince of Wales Pub in Atlanta and I had a Three Philosopher's beer. It is a sweet Belgian beer. Not my favorite type but it was pretty good.

You're 20 years ahead of me on the Urquell! I didn't realize Pilsner brewing was a Czech original. I always thought it originated in Germany. Apparently not.

Okay, I haven't posted for a couple of weeks, now... Sad

so why not start off in the beer aisle!

Finally ran into some Old Speckled Hen's at Market Of Choice! Definitely a great English Pub Ale. I would rate it better than Boddington's. Lighter and crisper, even though it has 10% more alcohol. As Beer Advocate might say, a terrific session beer. Very smooth.

The nitro cans are really interesting. You can pour the beer right to the top and they don't spill over. The foam just disappears from the bottom.

Next up: 2 U.S. beers from Montana and California (Mendocino), Anderson Valley.

I have to add Blue Moon to the list. A personal favorite of mine. And Boulevard which was a popular St. Louis favorite.
