As above, any links to info sites or even video's would be great.

Q: What is the fastest a human being can run?
A: Depends on what is chasing him.

Up until recently, the fastest clocked human top speed was about 26 miles/hour, but I believe that is now approaching 27 mph.

Does Ben Johnson still hold the highest speed attained by a human being record or has Mo or someone else broken that? _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

I don't think so... although if you know of a downhill speed record for running I'd like to hear it. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

I know I have run some downhill point to point 5ks. There has to be some downhill point to point miles. Time to put El G in a road race. |

Down hill point to point road races you have to love those. When I was a freshman in college I won my local road mile with a 3:17! I was point to point down hill and probably only about 1200 meters. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

3:17??? I sure hope that was short of a mile, or you'd have a new career niche!
I would guess Maurice's top speed eclipsed that of Ben's, as Ben's time was so much more dependent on the start (thus less to make up for later and the same resulting time). Of course, Ben also slowed down at the end, so that may well balance the former factor out.
I doubt downhill speeds would eclipse the 26-27mph mark recorded in the best 100's, as that's already moving as fast the legs can really maintain balance and control. I think the difference would be how long such speeds can be held.
A few entertaining downhill examples I know of:
Several years back, Nike loaded up a Hood to Coast team of ringers, and their first leg (Mike Myktok, I believe) blasted the famed downhill 5-miler, running the first mile in 3:40-ish and averaging around 4:01.
A friend of mine in college was about a 4:12 1500m (about 4:30 for the mile) runner at the time and was timed on a downhill 2-mile in the woods (mountains). He ran it in something like 8:18.

Carl Lewis had tremendous high end speed also. |

I've heard people say that Carl was actually running at the same speed as Johnson in that Olympic race when they were both at their top speed Johnson just held his longer and that resulted in the win for him. Although I can't quote the source right off the top of my head I did hear it on a TV program... so it must be true
Also Tim Montgomery has said that he has better top end speed than Mo, if that is the case then maybe he is the fastest. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

His was probably in the same ballpark as Bailey's, based on fairly similar times and similarly awful starts to overcome. Ben apparently had a higher top speed than Carl, so Carl is most likely 4th.

If anything, I would think Carl held his top speed longer than Ben in Seoul. I suppose it depends how you look at it. Ben opened a 0.1 gap in the first 10m, but his last 10m was weaker than Carl's and the preceeding late stages probably weren't any more consistent.
As far as Tim goes, he says a lot of things...

With all due respect to each and every one of you, this is a discussion that begs for Conway's input.
Is he off on a beach with those drinks with the little umbrellas in them?
That's where I will be next week.  _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |
