Can't say that I've ever heard that creatine helps muscle recovery. It helps build muscle, which isn't exactly the same thing. Most likely, it would just cause you to bulk up, which would be detrimental to cross country running.
A much better approach would be to supplement your magnesium and potassium and to hydrate sufficiently, as you are probably experiencing muscle cramping.
