Two things worked for me:
Thing 1 - Keep a can of food beside your bed. When you wake up roll your foot back and forth across the can to loosen up the bottom of your foot before you take your first steps.
Thing 2 - Get some surgical felt and cut it into a shape to use as an arch support. Start off wearing it in all your shoes and as the condition improves just wear it in your running shoes.
In my case the arch support was all it took to alleviate the situation. After about 4-5 months I quit wearing it and haven't been bothered since. BTW, the pain went away within 10 days of doing the above two things.
Good luck and let us know how you do. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Micah's right. PF is one of those major "injury" misnomers like IT Band and shin splints. Mostly just issues of strength and flexibility, yet many would have you believe they're worse than a broken bone.

Make sure you have the right shoes, if you're not sure, it would be a good idea to go to a specialty running store if possible.
Micah's can idea is good. Some people like to freeze pop cans or water bottles and then do the same thing.
At frontrunners we sell a "night sock" which bascally attaches to your foot and knee using an elastic to pull your foot upwards so that your plantar fascia is being lightly stretched all night, then it won't hurt so much when you get up. I think the one's we carry are made locally, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a similar product in your area.
I've never had PF, but have heard some painful stories. Good luck |

That's similar to a method I learned for treating achilles injuries. Works quite well.
