I know Dan is under the weather but where is everyone else?
Maybe we need a new topic. What is the single best Christmas gift the running world could receive?
How about an American born male running a sub 2:07 marathon? _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

How about an American born marathoner running under 2:10 ??? THAT would even be nice ...
What's wrong with Dan ??
Hmm ... Christmas wishes ...
A return to good health for Mo Greene ..
A quit resolution to this year's drug problems ..
More sub 10 100's next season ..
An American in the 1500 final in Athens ..
A sub 20.00 Olympic 200 final ..
And lots of internet interaction on track and field ... _________________ Conway

Seems pretty quiet across the net right now...
The single best gift to the running world? David Stern taking over for the IAAF/USATF and clearing house.

Hmmm .... A single gift ... How bout a drug free season ??? I'd even settle for a drug free Olympics ...
And I doubt if Stern is available, so how bout a former athlete with some cahones ... Someone like Gwen Torrence ... Outspoken and unafraid and apparently truly against drugs ... _________________ Conway

Drug-free or free from drug issues?
I like Gwen Torrence, but I don't think she'd be an improvement in terms of drug negativity. After all, she mired herself in those controversies as much as any athlete. Took a pretty big PR hit as a result, as I recall.
I don't see "anti-drugs" as being the right quality to look for. Very difficult to take that stand administratively without breeding more of the negativity the sport is suffering from. Drugs should be a very minor issue, at least publicly. Deal with them behind the scenes, if at all.
Doesn't really matter who it is, though. I don't think anything about Stern's resume stood out before he resurrected the NBA. Certainly nothing that would indicate a strong sports administration capability. T&F just needs someone at the top of the food chain who understands positive publicity, and things will be immensely better. Having people with the right idea (Masback) further down does little good, because they just get devoured by the negativity from above.

Gwen was mired in drug controversies ... BEcasue whe was always calling others on the carpet for using them ... I like Gwenn in the position becasue she seemingly HATES the idea of people using drugs ... And I think that that is necessary ... It seems toi me that most that are in charge now "tolerate" drug use ... That is why there have been cover ups and such laxness regarding the issue ... It will take someone who truly despises drug use before it gets turned around ... Someone who will not turn the other way ... In that regard I think Gwen would be awesome ... Totally different persona than being anti-drugs ...
But I do agree about positive publicity ... Unfortunately no one seems to think that publicity matters in this sport ... When it is indeed publicity which is the thing most lacking ... _________________ Conway

Your view on drugs has definitely changed.

Yes and no ...
I still believe in choice ... And I still believe that using things that occur naturally simply is the lazy way to achieve that which could be achived by working harder ...
However .. I do not know what one can achieve by "designing" artificial drugs ... Some of the things I have been told lead me to think that they can create an artificial difference ...
AND ... I'm ot the point where the whole issue is destroying the sport ... And therefore SOMETHING needs to be done to create some closure on the issue - one way or another - and bring some semblance of normality back to the sport ... I mean the dominating issue during the season was drugs ... From start to finish ... THAT is the death nell to the sport eventually ... So the drug issue must be laid to rest in one fashion or another ... Acceptance or termination ... _________________ Conway

I may not have been a big Mo Greene fan in the past, but he has taken a real beating this year (and last) with all the negativity. So I would welcome a big comeback this year capped by a new WR and Olympic gold. _________________ Paul

Hopefully Bud Selig will take over the USATF or IAAF after he quits being baseball commish. I'd love to see him stop a 5k in the final lap with Bekele, Geb, El G, and Chebii going through in 11:45.
In all honesty, I really hope Webb gets back to his Pre form. I know there are a lot of Webb bashers now and it would be nice to see him run 3:52 and shut them all up. I still support the guy even though it seems no one else does. _________________ November 9th... |

With this being an Olympic year I would love to see good things for Webb. I am still a fan too and I think most of the Webb bashers are people who got caught up in the hype and then gave up too soon when the injuries hit. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

I say Webb makes the Olympic Team ... He and K-nakker along with another youngster will go to Athens ... Then maybe folks'll let him be for a while ... _________________ Conway

I'm a part-time Webb basher and I never got caught up in the hype in the first place.
