Hello All:

I am training for an upcoming marathon. I have no history of knee problems. However, as I start to do my long-runs in prepartion my left knee really hurts after about an hour of running (not sure if it is stiffness). I typically do about 15 minutes of warm-up/stretching before running. The problem goes away after I stop running. Not sure how to correct this problem.

Any advice?

Thanks.

Tough to say what that is. Lots of things could be going on in the knee area: cartilage, bone, ligament, muscle, tendon, miniscus, ACL, PCL, etc. (obviously some repetition there). Could be something as simple as quad/IT tension or something more severe. If you're unable to pinpoint the source of the problem, it's probably best to consult someone who specializes in that area.
