___Yesterday, I went to a track in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and got into discussion with a high school coach. One of his youths runs very fast for a high school woman. I asked him if he should not go easier on her not to overexploit her at a too young age. At first, he was trying to say that he has never overexploited any one (not difficult to believe since he has been a coach for only three years -- he cannot know as of yet...). However, eventually, he got too exited not to spit-out, when I told him that his attitude may nullify her chances of performing well enough to get into international competition, that he is just a high school coach and all he cares about is how his pupils perform at the high school level.
___One may wonder how many talented runners can survive coaches like this at both high school, and fate forbid, at college level?
