As one of the "Elder Statesmen" of this forum I have been debating on what my contribution could be to this conversation. I don't think I can improve on what Dan and Conway have said to you Blaze concerning your methods of communication. So I will simply say welcome and try to respect the civil atmosphere we have established here at Run-Down.

And please bring on all your knowledge of the sprinting world. My knowledge is the least at the shortest races but increases as the distance of the race does.

Thank you Micah I appreciate the welcome.

I'm a track and field historian who has fun on these boards.Right now they are in the "I'll show him!" phase of this. Soon we will be entering the "damn the guy does know his stuff" phase that's when it get's fun........for me anyway!

I suggest you seriously rethink your strategy, unless you like coming off as an arrogant arse and fighting an uphill battle to get people to withhold or reverse judgement.

I agree ... No one wants to show you anything ... Right now I'm not even sure anyone wants to talk to you ... Definitely not the right approach ...

And reading a lot of history is fine and dandy ... Love to read myself ... Great way to gain knowledge ... But spitting out stats is a lot different than watching, listening, observing and living ...

My grandfather used to say that an empty wagon makes a lot of noise ... And in most cases he was right ...

Finally, at 30 you should be somewhat famliar with The Cosby Show ... I take you back to the episode where the Cosby's found out about Vannessa's husband to be, and the "garbage can" analogy that Mr Cosby used to explain his feeling about her fiance ... That analogy is terribly appropirate right now ...

I visit these boards to have fun it's not a life or death situation in the least.I'd rather argue/debate that go around all kissy poo and huggy bear. You'd be amazed at how many people actually prefer a little joust as opposed to niceties. You /they can think what ya want I know what I do works,I'm not new at this.

I've probably seen more live track than you have. Do you think I sit around reading books? I seriously doubt anyone he is capable of telling me anything, to be blunt if we are talking speed.

Ok, you've convinced me. You're the most ignorant person that has ever visited these forums. Congratulations.

Now, choose a new strategy and play by the rules of the forum or leave. I won't be issuing another warning. The next time, consider yourself banned.

A little piece of advice: When you're the only person in a group that finds something funny ... grow up. Rolling Eyes

I guarantee you talk "football" with 90% of the players in the NFL they have no clue about the league or the team they even play for. I bet you can say the same for most these world class sprinters. Just because somebody is involved in a sport that doesn't mean they are knowledgeable about it.

That's because most don't understand how/why they can do what they do ... They just do it ... Its natural ... No thought involved ... Coach says do this and they do it ... That's why so many use PEDs - they do what they're told ...

And that's why so few are able to coach ... They really don't understand the process ... And actually, typically, the best coaches are the guys that were good but not great - cause they usually had to work really hard to just be good ... And they had to learn what to do to get there ...

Personally i have been impressed by Powell and think he has a very good chance of taking the gold, when he clocked 9.91 in London it looked like he had more to give, especially as he had a poor start.

Athens 100 - Men … Let's take a realistic look at the Athens 100 …

Current World List - Top 10:

9.88 Shawn Crawford
9.91 Asafa Powell
9.91 Maurice Greene
9.92 Justin Gatlin
9.95 John Capel
9.99 Coby Miller
10.00 Aziz Zakari
10.01 Leonard Scott
10.02 Francis Obikwelu
10.04 Mickey Grimes
10.04 Steve Mullings
10.04 Bernard Williams

Major Players (Potential Medalists):

Mo Greene - US Trials winner .. Defending Olympic Champion .. 3 time World Champ .. Former WR holder at 9.79 .. Back to his consistent form this year, running consistent sub 10's .. Has suffered losses in insignificant races, but showed his big meet nature in Sacramento ..

Justin Gatlin - US Trials runner up .. Twice PR’d at the Trials (9.96 & 9.92) .. Upped his game at the Trials after so-so Spring .. Has been so-so again post Trials .. Will have to return to Trials form (w/ decent starts) to have a medal shot ..

Shawn Crawford - US Trials number 3 .. World leader with a PR 9.88 .. Has raced sparingly this year - had two 100 meter competitions before the Trials, and none since .. Will definitely be under races going into Athens ..

Asafa Powell - Jamaican Champion .. Seemed ready to break through at last year’s WC til dq in semi kept him out of the final .. Has had a blazing series of wins this season, including a 9.91 at Jamaican Trials and a 9.91 win over Greene (9.97) in London ..

Francis Obikwelu - Europe’s best .. Formerly of Nigeria, now representing Portugal .. Seems to be back to his 1999 form when he was one of the Worlds best young sprinters ..

Entering this season, the big question was "will defending Olympic champion Mo Greene stay healthy?" … Then after several fast races (windy and not) the question heading into Sacramento was "can Mo Greene run rounds?" .. The answer to that was an emphatic YES, as Mo won the Trials in a meet record 9.91 (albeit it narrowly over Gatlin and Crawford) .. Now the question seems to be "can Mo Greene hold off the challenge of Jamaica's Asafa Powell?" Stay tuned for the August 22nd answer to that question ..

Clearly, this race is shaping up as a show down between Greene and Powell, and is taking on Lewis v Johnson type shape .. These two have to be considered the current co-favorites in this race … Both have been fast and consistent …

Greene went through the crucible of the US Trials and emerged victorious in the greatest ever Trials final … He's run fast all season, remained healthy, and proved he can get through the rounds in fine fashion .. He has suffered 3 defeats - all to power sprinters with strong finishes …

Powell is undefeated and has had an easier season - not going through the US season and having being head and shoulders better than those he faced in the Jamaican Trials … None the less, his win over Greene in London was impressive coming in a relaxed fashion with "seemingly" a bit left in reserve ..

Gatlin and Crawford have been a bit of enigma's this season … Gatlin suffered losses amid poor starts prior to the Trials, then seemingly had it together … Only to lose it again post Trials … A good start puts him in the medals … A poor one has him on the outside looking in … Crawford has run well every time out - he's just had only a handful of races to evaluate .. Still a poor starter, Crawford has finished like a banshee - but will need to be close enough to make it a factor as the US Trials showed …

Obikwelu showed in his Paris win over Greene that he should not be discounted .. However his unpredictable nature means he could either be right there in the medal hunt, or get blown out … Just depends on the day …

Gold and silver will be decided at the start of this race … If Greene gets one of his trademark starts he wins gold and Powell gets silver … If not, Powell gets gold and Greene gets silver … Simple as that … And if either stumbles - even a fraction - Gatlin or Crawford will go right by em …

Prediction:

1. 9.83 Maurice Greene
2. 9.85 Asafa Powell
3. 9.89 Shawn Crawford
4. 9.91 Justin Gatlin
5. 9.97 Francis Obikwelu
6. 9.99 Aziz Zakari
7. 10.05 Uchenna Emedolu
8. 10.11 Tamunosiki Atorudibo

I nearly agree, but my prediction is:

100 meters:

1. (9.80 in the semifinal)
9.93 Maurice Green
2.
9.99 Shawn Crawford
3. (gets to the final on the skin of his teeth due to inexperience)
10.02 Asafa Powell
4.
10.10 Uchenna Emodelu
5.
10.11 Justin Gatlin
6.
10.19 Aziz Zakari
7.
10.24Lukasz Chyla [10.10 in the semifinal, new PB]
8.
dnsAsahara Nabuhoru.-- the Japanese sprinter -- I forgot his last name, please remind me, if I misspelled it.
