Oh man Webb is looking good ... I think he hasa medal potential this year ... Will be hard to do, but I think he will be in the thick of it ... ElG will be ready ... And you can't overlook the Spaniards who run well when it counts ... A Kenyan or two will be ready as well ... And then there is Hesko ... But I see that group and Webb mixing it up in a shoot out for the medals ... And I think Webb is mentally tough enough to be right there ... Ironically these past couple of seasons may end up being the difference for him - really helping him to develop his mental toughness ... _________________ Conway

Anyone know why Rupp didn't run?
And has ElG done any races yet? |

Rupp was sick and dropped out a few days before the meet.
I haven't seen ElG in any results yet this year...

Looks like Rupp wasn't all that ill...

Webb is the top American miler at this time. He came out of high school in 2000 after breaking Jim Ryuns high school mile record. He went to U of Michigan but left after a year to go pro. His last several years have been disapointing but he appears to be living up to his potential now.

To be honest, I'm undecided about Webb as a Fantasy pick. He's a great value, but I suspect he'll race sparingly between now and the Olympics. I'm skeptical he can hold his current form, period, but no way does he hold on through Athens if he doesn't go back to training for a stretch.

LATL I thought you were a distance fan ??? Ya gotta sign up for the Fantasy league ... Now that'll get you crunk !!!
Dan, you still doubting Mr Webb ??? I'm tellin ya he is gonna do fine in Athens and I bet he runs at least 3 races between there and the Trials ... He's more like a sprinter and he needs to stay sharp ... If he doesn't run he'll be in trouble ... _________________ Conway

Yes, I'm still a doubter.
Has he raced again since Pre?
The only way I see him having a chance at Athens (anything less than a medal is a disappointment, based on current form) is if he hardly races at all between now and then and goes back to some sort of base training. He has no choice about the Trials, which I see severely hurting his chances of extending a peak that long or pulling off multiple peaks that close together.

Yeah ... But I keep seeing him as more sprinter than distance runner ... He doesn't follow the normal distance pattern ... I think that is why he "failed" the past couple seasons - they tried to make a distance runner out of him ... Now he is back to what he does best - racing and running fast ...
As for medal possibilities, the Games record is "only" 3:32.07 ... Much slower than Worlds ... So he is definitely in the hunt ... Just has to execute properly in Athens ... Making the US team shouldn't be too difficult ... No one else can run under 3:37 ... And Trials races tend to get overly tactical ... May not be any harder than a training session for him ... _________________ Conway

Mindset and the toll 1500's take on the body are very different, though. That's a tough race to stay sharp for without losing your conditioning base.
