Agree to disagree, I guess. I see very little similarity between Mo's repeated antics and those of his predecessors. Otherwise, I guarantee you, I'd be harping on them just as much.
And no, I'm not one who believes all talk (publicity) is good talk (publicity). Case in point, drugs.

Back to Webb ... Did anyone else notice that he ran 3:33.70 this weekend in a good race in Hengelo ??? That's 3:50.7ish mile conversion ... Looks like Webb may finally be on his way !!! He & Mo seem to be back better than ever !! _________________ Conway

I take it back, there were some sickening displays at the bc high school champs today, including one guy who raised his arms in the air and hooted when he won one of four heats in the prelims of the 400. He then proceeded to jump around and hug all his friends. |

Webb now at 3:32.74 and got his first win in Europe at Ostrava ...
1 Webb Alan USA 3:32.73
2 Heshko Ivan UKR 3:32.88
3 Kiptanui Timothey KEN 3:33.34
4 Lagat Bernard KEN 3:33.61
5 Saïdi-Sief Ali ALG 3:33.89
6 Chirchir William KEN 3:35.54
7 Liefers Gert-Jan NED 3:35.81
8 Kennouche Abdelslam ALG 3:35.84
9 Maazouzi Driss FRA 3:36.35
10 Shabunin Vyacheslav RUS 3:36.44
11 Sneberger Michal CZE 3:36.50
12 Korir Paul KEN 3:37.50
13 Kimutai Japheth KEN 3:37.89
14 Chirchir Cornelius KEN 3:38.32
15 Krummenacker David USA 3:38.59
16 Ngeny Noah KEN 3:38.84
17 Formela Miroslaw POL 3:39.30
18 Kipkurui Benjamin KEN 3:39.32
19 Abdi Youcef AUS 3:39.48
Lelei David KEN DNF
Oravec Roman CZE DNF
And he beat some very talented milers in the process ... Hesko is no joke ... Neither are the Kenyans in the field ... and not that K-nakker was also in the race ... Webb should be a near lock for the US team ... And is making enough noise to be considered a medal contender at this point in Athens ...
And just a few months ago he was "washed up" !!!! _________________ Conway

Amazing turnaround and definitely no lack of respectable competition. I still think he's on an early peak, but he's sure looking sharp right now. I'll be surprised if he can hold this sort of form through the Trials, let alone through the Olympics.
Come on Alan, prove me wrong!

Great race for Webb! I'll be glad when the G8 ends so I can concentrate on the Olympics build up.
Dan, will Webb be in the Fantasy pool? _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

The way he is progressing I'm not sure he is on a peak ... At least I hope not ... Does anyone know if he is scheduled to race any more before the Trials ??? I'd like to see him go to the Trials and win big in say 3:33/3:34 ... Then run once or twice in Europe and then hit the Games and go 3:30 ... I said earlier in the year that I thought he could go 3:30 and that if he could it would put him in the medal hunt ... _________________ Conway

Just checked Pre and he is indeed scheduled to run ... Interesting ... Pre has a 1500 AND a mile ... Webb is in the mile ... Stember is in the 1500 ...
1500 METERS
Jason Lunn
Nate Brannen (Canada)
Nick Willis (New Zealand)
Gabe Jennings
Joseph Mwai (Kenya)—pace
Charlie Gruber
Brian Berryhill
Michael Stember
Kevin Sullivan (Canada)
Adam Goucher
MILE
Alan Webb
Laban Rotich (Kenya)
David Krummenacker
Jonathan Riley
Galen Rupp
David Lelei (Kenya)
Aaron Lanzel
Joel Atwater
Mike Miller
Sammy Mutai (Kenya)—pace
Elkanah Angwenyi (Kenya)
The mile field looks solid, but Webb is definitely the class of the field .. Question - will we see a 3:50 mile by an American ??? Has been quite some time ... _________________ Conway

I'm not sure what the thinking is behind separate mile and 1500m events. Neither field is particularly full, yet they're as of yet not allowing our Nick Symmonds in... So, all true T&F fans, get on the horn to Tom Jordan and let him know the Pre needs Nick! Local small college kid chasing Trials qualifier ... sell a few extra tickets and get good press coverage...
Give Rupp someone else to run against in the mile.

Sweet.
Willamette University sophomore Nick Symmonds. 3-time NCAA D3 National Champion (2x800, 1500) and just ran 3:45 at adidas (beat Lassiter, just behind Goucher and Jennings) in the process of rounding back into shape after 7 months off with double knee surgery. You won't find a better story for the various media angles...
Tom knows all about him, just being difficult. Nick's run many of his best times on the UO track (undefeated there) and coach has been in contact with the Pre powers that be to get him in.

Conway mentioned this over in the sprint forum but I thought I would bring it back over here. Webb looked real good at the Pre!
This may be wishful thinking but maybe he is the one to put the US back into the elite of middle distance competition. Wouldn't it be great if K'nacher could go there with him? _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

The kid's on a roll, no question. Running with a lot of confidence, which is something we haven't seen from many US milers.
