I could feel a little tiredness in the legs in the last mile.

I generally consider that a good thing when you're steadily building mileage. Means you're right at that point of pushing the envelope but not far enough to be an injury risk. Once you break through that little wall, the muscle fatigue and soreness usually falls by the wayside.

I think the walking breaks really make a difference. After the run I worked 13 hours with about 4 of it on my feet and there was really no fatigue residual from the run. Since this week only has three runs scheduled it will be interesting to see how refreshed the legs feel for the 6 miler. Today there is no soreness or tiredness.

13 hours straight? That's not part of the Galloway program, is it?

That is part of the "assist a local police department in monitoring a spring break type party at the beach" program.

Actually it was a good day. A large crowd of "kids" just hanging out and socializing with no real problems other than massive traffic jams. It was the first time I have directed traffic in years! Surprised

Let me guess, you were the cause of the traffic jams? Smile

Uh Oh! I hate to think what kind of pictures you took with your camcorder. Surprised We're still wearing winter coats over here. Except Dan, of course. He snow boards in the Alps in the dead of winter with his shorts on! Rolling Eyes

Well, I've never been to the Alps and I've yet to try snow boarding, but you're otherwise absolutely correct. Cool

Week six update.

No problem with the three and four miler. The six felt sluggish though. Halfway through I switched from 13/2 ratio to 12/3. It was 77 degrees and 83% humidity so that had something to do with it and I had a couple of long days at work that have left me pretty tired.

This week calls for 3, 4 and 7. I think I will carry a water bottle on the 7 since the summer heat has started.

Way to go Micah, sounds like you're doing well.

I remember reading somewhere that you don't need water unless you're running for over an hour because that's how long it takes for dehydration to set in. Is this true?

I'm not real sure about that time frame but if dehydration does set in then you can not drink enough to catch up. If you plan on running more than an hour then you have to start drinking before you get thirsty. So I will start taking a water bottle and drinking every 15 minutes whether I feel thirsty or not. In this south Georgia heat it is the only way to survive.

Sounds like your season is going well. Very Happy How many more races do you have?

There's a big difference between survival dehydration and exercise efficiency dehydration...

You are right. I think what I am talking about is exercise efficiency dehydration. I have finished my last mile on a hot summer day doing a survival shuffle because I didn't stay properly hydrated...I would prefer not to do that again. So I have found that drinking every 15 minutes or so seems to keep the dehydration at bay.

Right, I forgot to take into consideration that you have slightly hotter weather than I do Smile

I think I have between 4 and 7 track meets left, depending on how well I do (whether I go to provincials or any higher level meets etc.).

I've had a few memorable runs that I would much rather forget where I was overheated and dehydrated to the point I couldn't sweat any more. Not pleasant. :t-:

Wow, can't say I've ever felt that before.
