Ato Boldon was last in the 100meters today at DN Galen at 10.47 .. Seems to me that while Mo has made it back, Ato for all intents and purposes is done ... Thoughts ???

Actually we were both wrong. It was set in Seville in 1999. But he did set the WR in the Atlanta of 43.49s.

Actually, the WR was 43.29 in 1996 ... In Atlanta, MJ broke the Olympic record of 43.50 which was set by Quiincy Watts in 1992 ... Then he set the WR in Seville breaking Reynolds 43.29 which had stood since 1988 ...

So I was right, about the time, just not the venue and date. I did know he ran 43.49 in Atlanta though.

I was just browsing over the startlists for the Crystal Palace meeting, and the Men's 100m field is too hot! There are 16 contestants, and there will be 2 heats and a final (like there has been for the last few years), and whatever happens both of those races the quality is gonna be smoking...

I can see someone putting down a fast time in both the heats and the final to give them a physcological edge, but at the same time I can see someone getting injured. Although over here in Britain it is hot (around 80-85 celcius at the moment. It's 12:36pm), the weather has a habit of changing dramatically, especially for Track and Field meetings. And I can sense that something bad is gonna happen, I hope that I'm wrong...

Just in case anyone hasn't seen the startlists, they are on this webpage:
http://www.ukathletics.net/

The Women's 100m is also looking hot. The clash between Lauryn Williams and Veronica Campbell that was supposed to happen but never did happen at this year's NCAA Championships is finally going to get underway...

On the women's side, I don't see the race between Williams and Campbell as much of a clash ... I think Lauryn will destroy her ...

On the men's side, I too feel impending doom ... And I hope I am wrong ... But (and no offense) I just don't think they should allow sprinting competitions to be held in Britain !!! That damp weather is bad on the muscles ... And I just keep feeling like someone is going down ... Felt that way in Sacramento before the deuce if you remember and Tyson Gay did not finish the race ... Sad ... I hope I'm wrong, but making these guys run twice in London ... Ouch ...

No offense taken. I actually agree, and believe that the only sprinting competitions that should be held here in Britain are those that are Indoors at the Birmingham Grand Prix!

Live: London Grand Prix

All the action from the Norwich Union London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace.

Greene went under 10 seconds - but it was not enough for victory
Asafa Powell caused a shock in the 100m, the Jamaican beating Olympic champion Maurice Greene into second place.

Powell, who is yet to be beaten this year, won comfortably in 9.91 seconds.

Greene, who kept true to his promise of running under 10 seconds, clocked 9.97 seconds but world champion Kim Collins could only manage fifth.

"My start was shaky and although I collected myself, Asafa just ran a great race," Greene told BBC Sport.

"But this won't do anything to my confidence - it doesn't matter what happens here, it's all about what happens in Athens."

British Olympic hopefuls Mark Lewis-Francis, Darren Campbell and Jason Gardener did not qualify for the final.

Campbell was sixth and Lewis-Francis last in the first heat, while Gardener was seventh in the second.

There

I say
What a race. Seems like powell is the man to beat at athens. only greenes experience or crawfords raw power can threaten him, but after watching that race and powells dominance (The heat was an indicator of great things to come, when powell coasted to a 10.03 win practically jogging home ain the last 20m, leaving the likes of gatlin just managing to qualify for the final. Interestingly gatlin seems to have peaked too early, as he was trailing behind in the final in sixth or seventh place. leonard Scott finished third in 10.04.

The brits are no-hopers in the olympics at both sprints, probably the weakest team since the seventies. mlf finished last and gardner seventh in their heats.

Moving away from the 100m briefly, francique and blackwood finished the usual 1-2. Derrick brew back in fourth. This also seems to be the worst 400m season for the americans probably since the fifties as far as i can recall.

OVER TO YOU!.
