|
|
The US 24 Hour Championships start at noon this Saturday at Olander Park in Ohio. The course is a 1.09 mile loop around a park. Several past winners will be there and the competition should be tough.
On the men's side look for Roy Pirrung, Rudy Afanador and the Godale brothers Mark and Stephen. The winner should do 140 plus miles.
For the women Ann Heaslett should be the one to beat and could realistically compete for the overall title. If she stumbles Sue Ellen Trapp and Bonnie Busch are capable of 120 plus performances.
I will get some updates posted late Saturday night when I get back from the Georgia Southern football game. Go Eagles!!! _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Thanks Dan, you beat me to the punch.
Paul, I tried to reply to your e-mail but it didn't go through for some reason. Great picture. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

I figured you, Conway, and DG would get a kick out of that, and Dan encouraged me to send it. Like I told Dan, I'm just a shadow of my former self!! |

I did get a kick out of it ... ... Reminded me of the old days !! I am sure that when you look in the mirror that is the person that you still see ... Shadow or not ...

Yeah, I was thinking it's more of one of those narrow circus mirror reflections than a shadow.

Reminds me of when I moved to a different office a few years ago (from my profile you all know I work for Qwest). Someone called up and said "Paul Thomas is working in your office, now, the huge, bulked-up weightlifter". The person answering the phone in my office said "you must have the wrong office, the guy here is just a skinny, old, unobtrusive wimp".

Sorry to pull us all away from nostalgia lane but it is time for the first update.
Yiannas Kouros has entered
Of course he won't be eligible for the US title. But he will win. Kouros is arguably the best ultrarunner in history. Can't wait to see what kind of numbers he piles up. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

He's entered, I didn't even know he was still alive
I've read about him (The Lore of Running). He's regaurded as the greatest modern pedestrian. He's been kicking tale in these sort of races since the early 80's. I though ultra runners had a farely long shelf life but I had no idea that they could stick around this long and still be competitive. What's he been up to lately? I know little about him since LOR was published back in 91. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

Kouros is alive and doing quite well.
In March of this year he went 176 miles in 24 hours. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Here we go with the first update on the mentally well, unwell and just plain afflicted.
After 5 hours Kouros has 39 miles followed by Rudy Afanador with 37 and Kevin Setnes with 36. Setnes was a late entrant and is a big time ultrarunner.
On the womens side Jody-Lynn Reicher has 32 and Ann Heaslett (a psychiatrist by the way) has 31. I think Heaslett is stalking Reicher and will prevail. Sue Ellen Trapp is in third with 28 but I don't see her catching either of the other two unless they falter. But then again, Trapp is amazingly consistant and if she tires at a slower rate then she could be a factor. Even though she is over 50 don't count her out.
I was mistaken about Georgia Southern playing football tonight. Actually they are off this weekend so I will be able to stay at home and give more updates.
Stay tuned sports fans. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |
