I used to run 5-7 miles 5 times a week. Eight years ago I had an injury that resulted in three back surgeries. I still have chronic pain with sciatica, and get nerve blocks every three months to control pain. I would like to begin running again, although am uncertain of where to start. My dr. just sort of frowns when I discuss this with him.... Any suggestions where to start?

This may or may not be applicable to your situation, but I would recommend reading one of John E. Sarno's books:

I have read the first book and strongly recommend it to anyone!
Beyond that, my advice would be to start slow and easy; no more than a couple miles a day 2-3 times a week.
