|

Hi. I'm a 33 year old female training for a physical agility test with a police department and everytime I train for the 1 1/2 mile run, I end up coughing uncontrollably causing me to throw up after the run. It feels like my lungs and throat are on fire for about an hour after I finish my training. Any tips on why this may be happening? Also, I need tips on my breathing. Is it correct to breath in through the nose and out of the mouth?
Any advice that can get me running faster would help also. I'm running the mile and 1/2 in 16:50. HELP ... I need to get my time down to 15:34.
Thanks much,
Harper |

How you breathe doesn't make that much of a difference, just so long as you do. It sounds like you've got diet or lung issues.

When I was younger, I used to run cross country in high school and was diagnosed with exercising induced asthma. Could this still be effecting me?
My diet is probably the problem also. I do need to shed a few pounds ... but I'm not obese. I'm about 10-12 lbs overweight.

Asthma could be escalating the problem, but I don't think it's the underlying cause. When I say diet, I'm not referring to weight, rather what you're consuming.

Hi,
only thing to do is...the doctor's...it is always safer than running and runnig and running and in the next moment collapsing due to unknown problems. further you will surely get the time you need when you get medical help. i would not worry much about the time...i wud worry about
the pain...
good luck,
