what will happen if one were to eat an excessive amount of fiber? I have been eating a lot ofveggies, fruit, bran cereal, veggie burgers, and whole grain especially the last few days. I have become really constipated, causing me to not be able to sleep well. During the day I have had excessive gas and when I tried to run I felt like junk. I struggled through 1 mile and just quit for the day because I was over a minute off pace(about 8 min instead of 6:30- 6:50). Is this because of all the fiber? Does anyone have any suggestions? |

Fiber should have the opposite effect, but I suppose anything can trigger unusual responses if overdone.

I don't think it is really the fiber that is doing this too you. I think some of the foods you are eating may be too rich in nutrients for your body to take in before you run. I am not saying to stop eating these things, but I think you are eating them too soon before your workout. Thats my opinion.
Another thing: Oddly enough, runners can often lack strength in their abdominals! To strenghten these muscles, do pretty much any calisthenic that makes you feel just a tad uncomfortable in the front of the waistline and the sides of the waistline. Be sure to strengthen the muscles in the back in lower back with rear "scissor" kicks to balance this. I think that may help you be able to push harder! |

Water is a key to high fiber intake. Also a good probiotic supplement will aid in the maintenance of healthy intestinal flora and get things moving. _________________ Paul
