Very good. Yesterday I went for a walk on one leg in 90 degree weather. Neutral

Ah, but I did it again today on a much hillier route with an indicated temp of 96. I looked like I had been in a downpour when I got back.

The orthotics seem to be doing the job. I am running pretty much pain free for the first time in a long time.

I went camping in the north Georgia mountains this week. It really does make a difference in going from almost sea level to 3,000 plus altitude. The trails were great to run on and I even saw a bear on Monday morning. He was just as scared of me as I was of him so all I saw was his rear end as he was going away. Shocked

Mr. Green Thumbs Up

I bet the higher elevations were a lot less humid.

Oh Yes!!!!

The humidity was low and the highest temp was 82. It was very comfortable even in the tent at night.

Time for another update.

I am still fat.

I am still slow.

I am still running with the new orthotics and they feel great. I did 20 miles this week on 4 runs and they all felt good except for the heat. But that is just a fact of life down here in the "steamy south".

I'm just happy to hear the orthotics seem to be working. Great idea that was getting them. Cool

RACE REPORT RACE REPORT RACE REPORT

Today was pretty much a 5K long bonk. The course was flat and shady but the temp was still 77 with 100% humidity. I just never felt good and ran splits of 9:13, 18:33 and 28:56 at the finish. I think the problem was a holdover of the large and unhealthy supper I had last night.

But a bad race is still better than no race at all. We had fun before and after the race even if the race itself hurt.

That's pretty darn close to even splits, so I wouldn't consider it a bonk so much as just not being in top form.

Yeah, I was pretty consistant. Unfortunately I felt consistantly bad the whole way. It was just one of those days when my legs felt like they were 300 pounds a piece.

All of my training lately has been pretty slow. In fact most of it has been at about 10:30 pace so I guess dropping to 9:15 range should have felt difficult.

With the injury history I've had I want to keep running easy to avoid a reoccurance. I would like to finish this year with no more injuries and then try to work on speed next year. But I am getting so slow I am thinking about running one run a week as a fartlek. I will just push it in small quantities and only as much as I feel like. Even if I don't increase my pace but a few minutes a week it might keep my legs from going completely dead.

Interesting. That's exactly how all of my running has gone this year.

RACE REPORT RACE REPORT RACE REPORT

Yes I raced again yesterday. It was the Hot Pursuit Road Race 5K which is held in conjunction with the Peace Officers Association of Georgia annual convention. To run in the race you have to be a member or spouse so there never is a large field. But this year the heat index was 109 at race time so we only had 13 runners and 5 walkers. And thank goodness the course was short and we only ran 2.6 miles. But I did feel better running this one than Saturday's race. I finished in 23:10 for a 8:54 pace and placed 3rd overall. So I am happy with that.
