|
|
When I glance over the all-time lists (which is quite often) the fast times into big headwinds always seem to amaze me. I don't know why, but (just one example of many) to see the numbers -whatever in front of fast time just shows how much of a phenom some people really are.
Any great times that have been achieved whilst running into headwinds that stick out in anyone's mind?
My 'favourites' to name a few:
100m:
Mo - 9.82 (-0.2) (injuries aswell)
Frankie - 9.86 (-0.4) (easing up and celebrating aswell)
Ato - 9.86 (-0.4) (average start for him)
Mo - 9.87 (-0.3) (poor start, poor conditions, eg; rain, cold, etc.)
Calvin Smith - 10.04 (-2.2) (!)
King Carl - 10.06 (-2.2) (!)
200m:
Marsh - 19.73 (-0.2) (easing up at the finish)
MJ - 20.06 (-3.1) (!) & 20.01 (-3.4) (!) (the semi & final in tokyo wch 1991)
Anymore??? _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.

Didn't Surin or Montgomery run 9.84 under pretty poor conditions?

Thanks Dan, I almost forgot Montgomery's 9.85 (-0.2) when he was chasing Mo. Surin's 9.84 (+0.2) was run in great conditions in warm weather, on a fast track and with great competition (1999 Sevilla WCH) as was Montgomery's 9.84 (+2.0, in 2001 Oslo GP)
Asafa's 9.98 (-1.6) at last year's WAF was a great race too...in relation to the headwind and the time that he ran... _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.

I thought Surin had another fast one prior to that, but maybe I'm thinking of something else.
