PROPOSAL: SINCE 200 METERS WILL NOT BE PART OF INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS AFTER 2005, WHY NOT FIX THE PROBLEM IN SOME WAY -- MY PROPOSITIONS ARE AS FOLLOW:
-1) 150--meter race that would start in the middle of the straight of the newer facilities (50 by 50 by 50 by 50 or so),
-2) 300-meter race or 4 x 300 m relay -- done the same way as the 400 meter--indoor races (after 200 meters everyone breaks for the inside),
-3) or 150 meters race that would start from the extra strip of artificial surface that would lessen the sharpness of the initial turn (40 to 50 meters of it).
The bottom line is that the turn has to stay. The 200 meters is a furlong that requires ability to run a turn. This is specific only to the furlong, and to lesser extent to the quater-mile race (NOTA BENE: I very well understand that neither furlong is exactly 200 meters, nor quter-mile is exactly 400 meters for most exact, made by me, conversion tables and calculators, please log onto www.geocities.com/dekolak and go to page 4 A and 4 B).

Of those suggestions the only one I would like would be the 300... Ran that race a few times in HS - tough but not like that last 100M in the 400... _________________ The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat. |

4 x 100 m Relay comprehensive proposal:
1. Qualification: 21 top teams.
2. Seeding for excitement -- top 12 only:
Heats:
A) 1 + 6 + 7 + 12
B) 2 + 5 + 8 + 11
C) 3 + 4 + 9 + 10.
Lanes -- fairness -- you get the lane based on your ranking, but no lane one is used in any of the three heats. I know that one extra heat makes it more difficult to organize, but I do not see it as a huge problem when it comes to a world championships or Olympics that are competed each four years only.
I do understand that the championships must be elitist, concise, and profitable, but one more heat should not decrease the profit, nor the word elitists should be understood in the narrowest meaning. One more heat should take no more than a quarter of an hour.
3. Two top teams from each heat shall advance. In addition, two fastest third--place finishers from all heats shall advance.
4. The lane assignment in the final: the three winners of the semifinal heats get lanes 4,5, and 6 based on lottery; the three second--place finishers from the semifinal heats and the two other teams get lanes based on times from the semifinal heats: each team chooses their own lane based on the times from the semifinal: first team to choose is the fastest team and the last to choose is the slowest team. The tie breakers should be resolved based on the IAAF ranking position before the championships.

I think that they should change the entire formula of 200 meters indoors: it should be a dog fight – it would make it more just; it could return the event back under the roof.
I would not worry too much about injustice in the qualifying heats; but from quarter—final on, it should be only a few athletes in each heat: they would start with let say 2 heats of four athletes (lanes: 3,4, 5 and 6) – only the four winners would qualify to the semifinal; in addition the winners of two extra heats made of four time-wise fastest athletes in both heats would qualify (lanes 5, and 6) – this would make the rest of the field run their best just not to end up in the 7th and the 8th places overall . In the semifinal heats, the third—place final, and in the final heats, there would be only two athletes participating.
The banked turns should be lowered for the semifinal, third place, and final heats because, if to believe Pavvka, the banking of the turns makes the indoor competition even more unjust. _________________ http://vincovitanj.tripod.com/Do_not_be_a_victim1/index.htmlhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u43o595CARQ
