There's not really indoor track here for HS's in Oregon. I think my coach last year might start up an indoor track team, so I might give her a call and see what's going on. _________________ November 9th... |

The McKay coach often drives great distances to get some of his athletes to indoor meets, but there's very little in the area so most teams skip over it. I doubt it would be acceptable to hook up with them for indoor, but I don't think there would be any harm in me asking what they've got planned (for informational purposes), if you like. Assuming I can get ahold of Parks, that is.

Sure, I could use some info. I doubt I will do any indoor track because I like running outside with the elements. But it wouldn't hurt to at least know what's going on. _________________ November 9th... |

Ok, I'll try to remember to ask. It'll probably be a while before any sort of a schedule is put together.

Reviving a 53 week old thread...
Quote: | My neighbors next door, all 3 of their kids are good athletes. One of them was a pro basketball player in Italy this past year and has been on the Blazers summer league team the past two years. |
Josh signed on with Philadelphia for the year (I think it's a one-year deal, but it might be longer), so he's officially in the league. He got a 10-day contract with Atlanta near the end of last season but didn't quite stick.

Good Luck

I'm currently the 8th runner on our (boys) team, but one of our best runners might not compete because one of his lungs collapsed last week in a team "Time Trial". My coach said he'd only miss a few days, but I find that hard to believe for such a potentially severe problem. Anyways, because this is my first year or XC I get to be in the "novice" race with the freshman and other first timers! That'll probably help the nerves because I should be near the front if not in first place. Even though I'm in the Top 7, I can still get a letter if I break 19:30 (let's see, that's about 6:20 pace). That seems to be a reasonable goal and I'll have about 10 meets in which to hit that standard. It's kind of annoying how the guys varisty standard is 19:30 but the girls is 24:30. I know boys are faster and all, but that's a huge difference.
I feel in great shape. Last Thursday I went to a local park that holds races in August. I signed up for the 3k and the 5k with the intention of running comfortable and strong but not really pushing hard. The 3k started at 6 or so, so it was pretty warm and sunny. I did what I intended, and finished in 12:15. I was shocked because in previous weeks I was coming through in 13 flat with the same amount of effort (in my first thread on these forums I mentioned how I actually tried to RACE the 3k and barely broke 13). The 5k was 30 minutes later and again I did what I intended. I came through in 22:09, about a minute faster than previous weeks with the same effort. That really boosted my confidence and makes me believe I can break 20 on Thursday.
Our team is really quite deep and if our injured guy gets back, we have the potential to win our league. |
