Good race
That is an excellent pace. Was the slow down at the end a result of the fast first mile? _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

I came through the first half in 1:55 and change, but had some problems with my feet getting too wet and had to change socks (thank goodness for my wife). I then started having spasms/cramps in my back and shoulders. i walked a lot more than I wanted to, but it was a learning experience. On the positive side my conditioning and leg strength were fine as I never felt challenged cardiovascularly and was able to run with little tightness or sorenesss the next day (just 2 miles). I then took the 2nd day off, and have been back at it since. I will try again at Lake Erie in the fall. Wish me luck. _________________ 7/10/03 - 325

Of course we wish you luck!!!!
What kind of training are you doing? How long was your long run before this marathon and do you plan on changing it any for the next one?
Sorry Induer, looks like we hijacked your thread. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

I basically had been logging about 40 miles a week, divided amongst 5-6 days with one long run each weekend. The weeken runs vary from between 8-14 miles, depending on the terrain (major hills) and time constraints. I did run one 20 miler 2 weekes before to get a feel for it and the weather was very cool and I felt really well, but was also cautious and took walk breaks of 1 minute after every 20 minutes of running. I know I have a ways to go but 3:15, Boston, is becoming a goal!! _________________ 7/10/03 - 325

You ran a respectable time given the training you were doing. Are you planning on getting your long runs longer in prep for the fall marathon? _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

That is great because the 1:55 for the first half puts you at the pace for the sub three hours marathon.
I believe that you would have to run more then 40 miles a week to do so. However, if I were you, I would not increase your mileage too quickly. If I were you, I probably would try to go from 40 miles a week to 55 miles a week.
If a marathon is your goal, I would try to put 55 miles a week of effort, and see how does it help you with the next marathon.
I may be wrong -- different people have different needs and respond differently to different stimuli. _________________ http://vincovitanj.tripod.com/Do_not_be_a_victim1/index.htmlhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u43o595CARQ

55-59 Itzhak Berenholz 21:22
---
2nd ANNUAL FALLEN HEROES 5K MEMORIAL RUN
---
__I hope that I will be able to run as fast as my running friend, Itzhak, did last year, and I hope that I will have enough money to enter the race. However, most, I hope that I will be able to run with Itzhak as my personal pace maker.
-
__Itzhak participated in the first Annual Fallen Heroes 5 K Memorial Run, last year, in my home city of Elizabeth, NJ, USA, and became the course/event record holder in the 55 to 59 age group.
__The man's technique -- running form is great. To a neofite, he may appear as an old man barely able to move his feet above the artificial surface of the Olympic--size - - Warinanco Park - - Union County track.
However, over a longer distance his style of running is fast and efficient. There were many a younger men who had duped into thinking that they can easily run along the side of the "gramps." Majority of these men have been proven wrong, including yours truly up to about a year-and-a-half ago.

I will be back at it on 9/12 at Presgue Isle on the shore of Lake Erie. It is a flat course, but my training has been sporadic the last 4 weeks or so. I had an ulcer on my eye that was misdiagnosed and first and took 3 weeks or so to get rid of. I tried to run, but the sunlight and sweat were kind of tough. I logged a bunch of 4-5 milers but no long runs. I came back last week and ran the 1/2 marathon course that I ran in March. I did OK 1:57 and change, but walked for a hundred yards or so on the couple major hills. After that I cruised the rest of the week and then on Tuesday of this week I seperated my shoulder. I took Wed. completely off and jogged 3 miles yesterday and was fine. I am taking Sat. off and will try for a long run on Sunday (10-15). I think I need it more for my cinfidence than anything else. |
