Nice interview. It is interesting that a Div 3 school is the top school in Iowa for distance running. I guess it is easier to do that with running because it doesn't cost all that much compared to other sports. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

I wouldn't have guessed that, either, but they've got a really, really good team.

That was a nice article. I think running is one sport where someone from a small school can emerge and make an impact on the national scene. It is interesting that the top two local female distance runners in this area ran for Div lll schools. Both were All Americans and national champs and both are aiming for the marathon trials in '04. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Other than recruiting, there's no reason why a top runner is less likely to emerge from a small school. Scholarships and prestige of course lure most top talent to the big schools, but that doesn't appeal to everyone. Likewise, top level coaching will make up for lack of competitive opportunities.
