I've made it to Quantico and got the first week of the program underway. Ranger G, I will PM my phone number.

Physical Training is a required course here and very much emphasised so the very first week we were tested and part of the test was a mile and a half run on the track. My goal was to break 12 minutes and finish in the top third of my section. Technically it's probably not a race but everybody was giving it their best so, that's close enough. Remember now, we are mostly over 40 cops so there are no real speed demons here....or so I thought. There are 48 in my section so we went to the track on a misty morning with a 68 degree temp. I ran consistant 2 minute laps and then stretched it out on the last lap to get a time of 11:50 and finish in 8th place. Both of my goals were met and I am very pleased with that.

Now to the speed demon. As I said the PT is a big thing here and the records for the runs, pushups, situps, etc are prominently posted. The female record for the mile and half for the National Academy program (that is what I am in) is 9:17. We have an over 40 lady in our section from New Jersey who wanted to challenge the record. So the instructors declared the inside lane on the track to be hers only and of course the rest of us were happy to give it to her as we were excited about the idea of a class mate setting a new record.

She didn't just break the record....she obliterated it. Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

She ran a very relaxed looking 8:47 and said she can probably lower that when we have our end of the course test in 9 weeks. Can't wait to see that.

Dang, that's movin'. Congrats on placing as high percentage-wise (top third) in your race as in the Fantasy League. Wink

Will we be getting regular updates from you, or will your online time be limited?

Dan

That is moving!! Under a six minute mile. Very impressive. As was your running. If there was any lingering problems with your leg, I think they would show up with the 2 min lap speed. I know that your health was a concern of yours with the Quantico trip looming, so that must be a relief. And your bodyweight has got to be a nice bonus, well under your goal of 193 (I think I remember that right) when you started.

Are you still thinking of running the marathon you had planned?? Will you have the opportunity to train long enough on the weekends to continue your goal??

I will have fairly regular access to the net so I will be able to continue updates. The foot is feeling pretty good but I am not sure if I will be able to do the marathon. I'm going to see how things go here and I may still have time to try it if I get started stretching out the long runs in the next week or so. Our weekends are free so the training time won't be a problem.

Great Job Micah!

Now lets see if ya can beat my daily pushup and crunch schedule!

We'll discuss the details over dinner Laughing

Sorry to have been gone so long folks. I have had a lot on my plate, and of course my troubles have not ended, but I can deal with them.

The house is being rebuilt, the exterior is almost done, the interior is studded and some of the electrical and plumbing has been roughed in.

I will continue to drop in from time to time.

Ran a 5k on the 4th. Not my best time, but then again it was after a 10 hour drive into the frozen north, and I am just getting back into my stride again. After the race, they discovered that the measurement was off, and it was a bit over 5k Surprised Seems up North, they measure the course by odometer, with an old pickup truck Confused But hey, I'm running races again!!!

I am going back in two weeks for a 4 miler and again on August 2nd for the B2B 10k. I missed the cutoff, but I can run bandit or just take pictures of my friends.

Great to hear the news about Jafar too!

Hope ya all are well!

Ranger

Hey Ranger, good to hear from you! I've been doing some of the house stuff you mentioned (minus the pressure of having no house), so I can relate to what you've been dealing with, to some degree at least...

Even US National Championship XC courses have been known to be off by 500m...

We had the final PT test yesterday and the lady from New Jersey took the record down another 20 seconds Exclamation She ran 8:26 which will probably be the record for a loooooooooong time. Considering that the average age of NA students is 41 the chances of another lady of that age group coming here and being that kind of a runner is pretty slim.

I improved my time from 11:50 to 11:20 but finished two places further back than the first test so I guess everyone improved. I also improved pushups and crunches, dropped one inch in waist size, dropped 2% body fat and gained 3 pounds. Surprised

And lest you all think I am just another dumb athlete I made A's in all my academic classes. Cool

5:40's is moving! Surprised

Sounds like you're turning into one lean, mean, criminal hunting machine. Smile

Excellent, Micah!! I'm happy to hear the Quantico trip was such a success. Lost some fat, gained some muscle. I meant to ask you how the weight was doing after Yellow Brick Road. Glad to hear its still under control. Good luck on getting it down further to 180. And, hopefully, sonds like the injury problems are under control, also.
