The question of who is the hottest track & field athlete comes up from time to time, but here's a new twist on the situation. During a commercial break on Indiana Jones: Temple of Doom (boy, I don't remember that movie being so bad from when I was a kid and saw it in the theater!), I was flipping channels and ran across quite possibly the stupidest in a long line of increasingly stupid "reality" shows: ABC's Are You Hot? I don't know if tonight was the final or if it was a re-run, but it was a finalist show and one of the 4 men was shockingly a name I know... Shipley Ennis, who graduated I believe 3 years ago from PLU (Pacific Lutheran University) up in Tacoma and was second in the nation in the decathlon for NCAA DIII, finishing right behind Willamette's own 2-time national champ, Jimmy Watts.

When Shipley and Jimmy were seniors, they duked out quite a conference meet for Athlete of the Meet honors. Shipley had probably the meet of his life and edged out Jimmy, something like 50 points to 45. Here's when you know the meet is going well for you... In one of the most memorable races I've ever seen, Shipley was faltering late in the 400 hurdles and looked like he was going to get beat coming up to the last hurdle. He hit it pretty bad and nearly went down, but in the process of trying to catch his balance, he stumbled forward and actually accelerated in the process, holding on just enough to the momentum to get the win! In the 110 hurdles, he caught everyone by surprise to win from the outside lane (I think it was 8, but it might've been 1)...

I would think a show dedicated to finding the hottest people in America would be pretty good qualification for consideration as hottest in the sport, although I'm not sure if he's still in the sport...

By the way, Jimmy Watts, who Ennis was not too far behind, was ranked 18th in the US in the decathlon two years ago.

Talk about a can of worms to open! Surprised

Are you guys familiar with www.trackandfieldphotos.com ? It has several hundred photos from Milrose, US indoors, World indoors, US XC champs and World champs.

All you have to do is scan through those shots to realize that our sport has some of the hottest bodies on the planet. Very Happy

Can't say I'm familiar with it. Nor does that URL lead anywhere for me.

My Bad Embarassed

Try www.trackandfieldphoto.com

The "s" wasn't supposed to be there. If that doesn't work go to www.fast-women.com and look for the article on the world indoor photos.
