Some random thoughts on today's competition:
Gail Devers...she makes uncommon excellence seem like a common place occurence.
Terrance Trammell...disappointed that he didn't win either race.
Allen Johnson...glad to see him win, he is one of my favorites.
Justin Gaitlin...is he the next great one?
Angela Williams...is she the next great one?
Alan Webb...still several years away from greatness and could probably do without the constant hype.
Excellent facility...did I hear correctly that it is a community college facility? Wow!
Is it just me or do track & field athletes give better interviews than the majority of other athletes? They seem to come across as both confident and modest, upbeat without swagger and classy. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

I didn't see the competition but I will make a couple fo responses ...
Gatlin is the next great one ... I've been saying that for a couple of years now ... He has it all ... And is so young ... And his best event is 200 meters ... AND he could be great at 400 !!! He will make people forget about MJ in a year or so ...
Devers is simply awesome .... Nuff said !!!!
How did Webb look ... 7th isn't the place he wants to be finishing ...
And that was an awesome time by Allen Johnson ... Should be a PR and if so that bodes so extremely well for the 110's !!! _________________ Conway

Webb just did not seem to be able to keep up. Actually, he looked like a boy trying to run with the men. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

That's funny, two years ago he looked like a man among boys...

Nice, small article on Webb in SI. I don't have the URL, though.
I also have been expecting big things from Gatlin ever since I saw him compete at the NCAA's in Eugene in 2001. |

REgina is a great person ... And I get to see her run a lot as she lives here in the Bay Area (say 50 mile radius to define roughly) ... She's actually tiny but tough as nails ... I think she has a great shot at gold this summer in Paris ...
Drug talk is sort of on hiatis now that TIm and Marion have "left" their coach ... Things will probably stay quiet until a fantastic mark emerges or someone tests positive ... _________________ Conway

Looks like Dragila is back in form and Teeter too. More chances for World's medals. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

I like the US's chances for medals this time around ... Starting to look like the days before the Iron Curtain !!! I'd say we have legitimate shots at gold everyshere but the distances ... And I won't even go there ,,,,, _________________ Conway

Don't discount the women in the distances. With Jacobs, Drossin and Derouck we have excellent prospects for medals.
Our women are in good shape. It's just the men who are still sucking hind teat. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

With Jacobs, the safest bet is that she will end up not competing at whatever the championship meet is...

i see there are regina jacobs haters on this site as well.
i am a big fan of jacobs, i believe that most of the negative attention that she recieves she really doesn't deserve
i don't believe the drug hype, i think she is one of a few targeted athletes |

I didn't say anything about drugs... She has cited many non-drug reasons for having not competed at various championship meets. Whether or not you choose to take that at face value, the fact remains it's a pretty safe bet most years that she will skip out...

Count me as a big Jacobs fan, also. But Dan is right, she doesn't hold up well in international competition. She does put it together for National meets, however. She seems to be good at targeting her meets for good times. I would hope that this year and next, she can target some of those international big ones and go after some people.
Conway is also correct. She is much smaller than she looks on the track. I had the fortunate experience in exchanging a few words with her at the 2001 USATF's. Close up I didn't recognize her for a second!
(Dan, hope 2 non-dissenting posts in one day isn't too much )

I was shocked the first time I saw Jacobs in person. If you didn't get a good look at her face, you'd think she's about 11 years old. "Tiny" doesn't do her justice... It's odd how much different she looks through the camera lens.

Two's good; three might be my limit.
