Hi everyone!
I am new here and fairly new to running. I am wanting to know if anyone has any opinions on 'Mio Heart Rate Monitors'? I received one for my birthday yesterday and have since been told they arent nearly as good as the Polar ones with the chest straps. Is this true? Any opinions are appreciated

Can't say I've ever heard of that brand, but I'm not a big HRM enthusiast, so that doesn't necessarily mean anything. If you know any triathletes, check with them, they're likely to know everything about HRMs!

I've used HR monitors before, although I usually use it for cross training to make sure rehabbing athletes are getting an equivailent workout to running. But they also can be used for determining recovery during interval workouts, and for gathering data for determining proper training level, (usually in relation to over training). If all that you do is run distance runs it's probably only good for entertainment, since generally on distance runs you can pretty much tell where you are in terms of effort without an HR montior to tell you, but that's only my opinion you may find it very useful. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

Welcome to the forum. I have no experience with hrm's but there are a lot of people that really believe in them. Please join in on some of our other discussions. It is always nice to have some new input. Good luck with your training and don't hesitate to keep us updated with your progress.

Although I've never heard of or used the Mio, I've used Polar monitors (5-6 different monitors throughout the years) and have found nothing that comes close. I bought a Nike monitor and within 3 weeks, the first one quick working (buttons malfunctioned). Upon getting a replacement, it quit after just 6 weeks. Then, the 3rd one last all of a month.
As for usage, there is nothing out there to be Polar. (And, no, I'm not affiliated with them in any way. ) I rely on them as much as shoes. To me, it's an essential piece of running gear. Just like I stick with Nike shoes cause they are the only ones that allow me to run uninjured, Polar has been the only HRM I have been able to use. |
