Please can someone confirm that spearman ran 19.65 with a nil-wind in Daegu, s.korea with no competition. Second placer running 21.30.
Because if that is true, then I am quite shocked. Not that spearmon cannot run that time, but at the end of the season with no one to push him and no reason to go that fast, it is a truly great run. |

200(0.0): 1. Spearmon (US) 19.65 (3, 3 W, A) (fifth sub-20 of
year, tieing MJ for second-best ever; Fredericks had 8 in ’96)
(lane 6);… 4. Conwright (US) 21.51.
Doesn't say much about the rest of the field, but it confirms what you've seen.

I am going to assume he got out really fast and ran totally relaxed with no pressure on him. I hope he remembers the mechanics of this race next year. What does that give us, 4 under 19.70 this year?? Can't wait for next year in this event! _________________ Paul

Spearmon 19.65 is awesome - PR by 0.22 and running solo for probably all of the race
He ends the season with PRs of 10.11 / 19.65 / 45.22 - great season for him
4x200R WR could well be under threat with:
Tyson Gay
LaShawn Merritt
Xavier Carter
Wallace Spearmon
Maybe chuck Varden [19.98] in there as a replacement for Merritt - they could all split sub-20
Gay 19.8
Merritt 19.7
Carter 19.3
Spearmon 19.3
1:18.1
or
Merritt 20.2
Carter 19.3
Spearmon 19.3
Gay 19.2
1:18.0 _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.

Spearmon has made a big improvement in the 100. I was unfair on him in an earlier string when I suggested that his flat 100 speed was not all that in contributing to that worldcup relay run of 37.59 |

Yeah he has made great 100m progress since last year. I remember seeing him run 10.27 on TV with an awful start - since then has gone to 10.18 and now to 10.11 - I predict at least 10.05 from him next year, maybe even a sub-10.00 if all is well
The 2nd leg he did on that 37.59 was amazing - have never him so quick, until the day after when he set 19.87PR to win the duece
3 sub-19.70s in a season - not bad for an even that was in the doldrums just 3 or so years ago _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.

Rember that Wally spent most of the first half of the season, into Europe, running the 400 !!!! During that time he was mostly 20.0x ... Once he dropped the quarter, the deuce began to escalate - as did his 100 ...
With Gay running 10.00 turns and Spearmon as strong as he has gotten, watch this event next year !!!!!
X I'm not sure he has the race mechanics for sub 10, but I do believe he has the leg speed ... _________________ Conway

He is only 0.09 off. And into a headwind too. But I do agree, his mechanics don't look like they suit a regular sub-10. Maybe a one-off with the best of conditions
His website should be good when up and runnin _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.

My bad - I was actually referring to Carter! I got ALL wires crossed there LOL
Okay then, do you think Carter will go sub-10? _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.

X-Man has some of the best raw speed I've ever seen ... I got to watch him at NCAA's this year ... His acceleration and turn of speed in both the relay and the open 100 was phenomenal ... I have no doubt that he can run sub10, and do so regularly ...
He will need to work on his race mechanics in order to do so ... But if just cleans up a little bit I think he will be there ... Best pure talent out there right now ... _________________ Conway

That's saying a lot, given what we've seen the past few months!

Hey, if you watch him run he is RAW ... A coach like John Smith could work wonders with him ... 10.09/19.63.44.53 off pure talent !!!! Not sure there has ever been anyone like him ...
MJ was no where near that at that age !!! Nor was Mo, or Powell, or Gatlin ... Well Gatlin was close, but not quite ... I think James Sanford had that kind of talent, just didn't last lonog enough !!! _________________ Conway

Obea Moore? William Reed [10.0HT at 16yo!] ??? Even though they burnt out they still had mad talent - as much as Carter you would say? Or a different story? _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.
