From today's USATF press release:
Quote: | Two-time USA Indoor champion Kevin Toth smashed his own shot put meet record with a throw of 22.67 meters/74 feet, 4.50 inches Saturday at the 76th Kansas Relays in Lawrence, Kans.
Toth's throw betters his previous career best of 22.19m/72-9.75 in winning the 2002 Nike Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore. His performance is the best in the world since Werner Gunthor of Switzerland threw 22.75m/74-7.75 in 1988. |

I can see two ways that thought can be finished, and one of them brings me to a related thought... The last person I remember making such huge breakthroughs at an already exceptional level was Randy Barnes. Unfortunately, we know what happened to him shortly after...

How can that be true??? USATF press release need to sort out their facts.
Toth's performance is the best in the World since Randy Barnes threw 23.10m(2nd Best performance of all-time) in San Jose on 26th May 1990. I just rememered that mark in the nick of time, as I was about to put that Toth's mark was the longest in the World since Barnes' threw the current World Record of 23.12m. But that mark was made in Westwood on 20th May 1990, and obviously, when looking at the all-time lists Barnes 23.10m putt was made at a later date. _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.

Was Barnes' mark ratified? I know he was fighting a drug suspension around that time.

X is right this time ... Barnes two marks were made in May of 1990 ... the 20th and 26th ... And they were ratified ... Barnes suspension surrounded a different set of puts .... If I am not mistaken ... _________________ Conway
