The problem is since few if any of these books will turn into huge money makers for the publisher the public is genreally left to word of mouth to find out who should utilze each book and in what context it should be taken. |
I would have agreed wiht that assessment as recently as the late 90's ... But I would think now with the popularity of hte internet ... And sites such as this, RW, and TFN, among others, that gaining information on available reading materials should be much easier to do ...
Which brings me to this thought ... That major magazines with web sites - TFN, RW, etc - could provide a better service by utilizing BOTH media separately and with different goals ... The book form could be used for the hard hitting stories, interviews, and truly journalistic kind of stuff ... The web version could be used for up to the minute reporting and for the minutiae of information they have available ... Book reports, lists, etc ...
Seems like with all the forms of media there are that the Media can do a more complete job for both the casual, serious, and professional athlete ...

With the financial and time resource pressures being faced by online news outlets, something like that may well become a necessity.

I hope those events take place. And I think that they eventually will. However if there is one constant with almost everything related to track and field, it will probably be delayed in coming. As seemingly every good idea purtaining to T&F matures much slower than in just about every where else. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |
