Hi. My name is Kate and I am a high school junior. I have currently broke the girls' freshman and sophomore records. I am training to for my junior year of cross country. The junior record is 20:44, and my best time is a 21:11 (on my home and basically flat course). What can I do to improve my second mile (which is always my slowest mile)? Orwhat can I do just to overall improve my chances of breaking the junior record?! PLEASE HELP!
Thank you!

Hi Kate,

First of all, congratulations on the records you have set! Considering your third mile is faster than your second, I have come to the following conclusion -- you're sand-bagging it! Wink I mean that in the best possible way...

Seriously, try pushing harder than feels comfortable on the second mile and see if that keeps you from slowing down. Most likely you are saving a bit too much for the finish.

You could always try running a race like me: Go all out and just try to hold on...
