If a person is doing strictly field events, how much running should they be doing? What type of running? Does anyone have some specific workouts for a shot putter,Discus or Javelin thrower? Thanks

From what I've seen throwers generally only run sparingly in the early season. Around here our throwers (who are very good) generally only do sprints, with plenty of rest at a quick pace. Although the throws coach stretched the length if the intervals to 150+ for a while after one of his throwers pulled a hammy racing in practice. But generally throwers only run short fast sprints early in the season or very rarly longer, slower, stuff to loose some weight.

From what I've seen, throwers typically do very little running but do a fair amount of plyos for leg strength, explosiveness, and general balance and body control.

I assume by field events you were not referring to the jumps?

I can't speak for what DG meant, but most running I've seen throwers do is 50m or less. They don't need much endurance or speed endurance, mostly just explosiveness and mobility.
