Square one being the fact that they may be the most natually distance rich country in the world ??? I would say most definitely .. And unfortunately they have no need to worry about who is performing well in any given season because they know SOMEONE will be !!! I am curious however as to why they seemingly have stopped production of 400 meter sprinters ?? They were strong at 400 even before 800 et al .. Guys like ASati and Sang were in the 44s back in the 70s .. And their 4x4s were once only second to the US .. It is almost as if they have forgotten the 400 ..

No, squre one being that Ethiopia, Algeria, and Morroco probably are similar to Kenya in terms of ecomonic/societal factors and the intensity of training from an early age, so that doesn't explain why the Kenyans seem to peak earlier. You don't hear nearly as much about guys like Geb and ElG training abroad, so maybe you are onto something.

Hmm .. Given that the Kenyans have also produced world class 400 runers, I wondr if it might not be that the Kenyans have inherently faster fast twitch muscles ?? Add the distance and they may be a little faster early on .. Until the maturity factor of other cultures sets in ..
