HI, I WAS WONDERING WHAT ARE MAIN REASONS WHY
COUNTRIES LIKE THE US, KENYA, JAPAN AND MANY EUROPEAN COUNTRIES PRODUCE SO MANY TRACK ATHLETES, WHEREAS COUNTRIES LIKE CANADA SELDOM PRODUCE ANY??? DOES IT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH TEAM FUNDING???

PLEASE EXPLAIN... Smile

THANKS

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that "magic runner" and "prodigy" are the same person. As such, I'm going to ask again to stop posting the same thing under different topics and please refrain from using all caps. I will be removing duplicate topics after this...

That's better. Smile

Funding is certainly part of it, but I'm sure there are many other explanations. In Canada's case, there doesn't seem to be an event that is associated with as the country's event. The US has the sprints, Japan the marathon, certain European countries the throws or the distances, and you know East Africa...

After Ben Johnson, I'm sure there were those who thought they had seen the end of Canadian sprinting, but that didn't stop Bailey and Surin's rise. Heck, did anyone predice Surin would achieve such levels after watching him way back when?

Couldn't tell you. There seems to be a steady stream of quality high school milers coming out of Ontario (and invariably going to U of Michigan), but I haven't heard much else.

hi, i have another question to ask... Smile
if kenyans are so good at track because of
factors such as training style, and genetics,
would the same be considered for caribean islands?

i.e. does the kenyan style of training differ from
the training style of the caribean?

One is speed, the other is endurance, so yes, the training would likely differ significantly. The mindset behind the training may well be very similar, though.
