Hello!
I jogged 5 days a week for one hour each day during the winter. Now that the nicer weather is here, I've upped this to 6 days a week - one hour each day. Is this too much? Am I heading for injury? On one of these days, I concentrate on going fast, while all of the other days, I just take my time. I'm also still trying to lose weight - 13lbs to go. Should I just jog 4 or 5 days, and cross train the other days? Thanks! Sue

Hi Sue,

It's only too much if it feels like it's too much. If you've been running at that level for six months or so, chances are pretty good your body can handle it. Cross training is fine, but it rarely replaces running on a regular basis. I like it for an additional workout, not in place of a run.

Thank you Dan! It's so wonderful that you take the time to answer each post! I appreciate the time, and care that you devote to helping us, and sharing with us your wisdom and knowledge. Thanks a lot, and I'm going to keep up my 6 days of running until my body tells me otherwise. Thanks. Sue

You're quite welcome. I enjoy helping others enjoy running and avoid the mistakes I have made and the injuries I have encountered.

Cheers,
Dan

It is only too much if you get injured or burnt out. It sounds like you aren't going to get either. The key is not to worry about your speed on your easy days. Just get the miles/time in. Then on your hard day go hard.

Don't worry about your weight. It will take care of itself with time and miles/kilometers.

As far as cross training goes, depends what you your goals are.
