Are there techniques I can use in training to improve my pacing?

In a nutshell, train at the exact pace you want to run. That is the key to my theory of training -- develop muscle memory at goal/date pace, with the majority of the tweaking being the distance you are running based on your current conditioning.

Dan,
Let me see if I understand you correctly.

If I want to run the 800m, I should run 200m repeats at my goal pace. Is that correct? (I do this with my daughter.)

Or run 400m at goal pace. (The goal pace is always just slightly faster than the date pace.)

I believe that a runner should train at the pace they will run. Shorten the repeats so a sufficient number can be run to learn the pace.

Do you agree?

Thanks

Hi Gary,

I agree completely. 200m and 400m repeats at 800m date pace will provide some great workouts. I don't think about training at goal pace so much as slowly inching date pace toward the goal pace and bringing the workouts along for the ride. Wink
