Wouldn't you believe it, I click on the live results ticker just as the results are coming in from the first 1500m heat. My lone entrant in that event, Webb, is the next name to pop up, just missing the auto-qualifier despite being tied to the hundreth with the last Q. I'll have to keep my fingers crossed that he gets in on a time qualifier...

Kinda cool seeing the results come up one at a time. Must be a direct feed from their timing system.

I've had a few disappointments so far: Sinclair and Valdonado just missing qualifying through in the 800, Crawford DFL'ing in the 100, Colander not running the 100, and Scott fading in the 100 final. But Gatlin/Scott is still good points to get things started, and Richards (400), Calatyud/Mutola (800), Williams/Sturrup (100) are all shaping up for a good showing, with the distance events still a big unknown.

Conway's getting his share through the rounds, too...

Im going alright, i had Gatlin, Frater, Thomas and Burns in the mens 100m, giving me 1st, 2nd, 5th and 7th... my only mistake was having Crawford... :t-:

The Mens 1500m Baba made it through, but bloody Kipchirchir Komen was the 10th fastest non automatic, with 9 going through... of course we wont speak of the foolishness of El Guerrouj being on my team...

Womens 100m ive got 4 in the semis, Simpson, Arron, Barber & Williams...

Womens 400m my two americans Henderson and Richards made it through looking strong...

Womens 800m Mutola scraped in but Sinclar again missed out by one place... doh...

Wow, you're loaded in the 100's! I'm not quite sure why I left Dwight Thomas off my roster. He was one of my darkhorses last year and I had him in and out of the roster this time around, but I dropped him and Zakari when adding in Crawford at the last minute. Rolling Eyes That'll probably turn out to be a 1,500 - 2,000 point mistake when all's said and done.

Frater and Burns I wouldn't have picked for the final.

That figures. I never could quite decide what my main event was...

I was pleased today, too. Got 1st and 4th in the women's 100 and qualified Webb and Richards through to their finals. Geneti running the 1500 makes me think he won't be in the 5k, but he would've been a long shot to score there, anyway.

Man, that women's 100 was the toughest race to call that I can remember. Between the absolutely loaded 1st heat in the semi's and 4th through 7th in the final all getting 11.09 (and 1st through 3rd being 10.93/95/98), that was just plain rough. I thought Sturrup had dropped back to 6th, but I guess the photo gave her 4th.

Wouldve been cooler if it was a 4 way photo for the medals instead of 4th... still i dont think ive ever seen 4 runners given the same time before...

That top-3 was still pretty darn tight, but you're right, trying to separate out a photo finish for 1-4 with only 3 getting medals would've been a real nail biter.

I was shooting for 1-3 in the women's 800, but 1-4 isn't too bad. Mutola would've had 3rd if she hadn't let the Russian by with 200 to go, getting bumped and losing too much momentum...

How about heat 6 of the men's 200, first round? All 7 qualifying on, with times ranging from 19.99 to 20.40! Sure, it was a strong tailwind, but that's better that some finals.

I was happy with 4th, i wasnt expecting much from Mutola after watching the rounds... i agree the bump at 600 cost her a medal...

Im glad there was only one heat with a 4.3m/s tail, up until then Pat Johnson (an Aussie like myself) was the fastest non auto and i thought hed go through easy, then after that heat he went from being the fastest back to the 5th fastest and i was hoping there wasnt going to be another heat like that one... a bit of a lottery with +4.3m/s one minuts and -2.7 the next...

Edit after last night...

Damn Hennegan for giving it up in the straight... Razz had Richards tho...

Mulaudzi missed making the final by one spot, but at least Reed made it through to salvage some 800m points. I've seen Reed race twice this year, and he set a national record both times!

One of my women's 5k runners is qualified #2 in the 1500m... Neutral

Dan, does Webb score any points for that 9th place finish? I was pleased with him being only 4 seconds off the win. I still think he has a lot of improvement in his future and can be a medal winner eventually.

Nope, only 8-deep... Not the savviest of strategies he employed. "Win or nothing" seemed to be his thinking, which is a bit risky for your first time stepping up to a championship final. It's almost as if he didn't want to risk being second guessed for not pushing it hard enough prior to the kick, but it was obvious from how short he held the surge and how easily Ramzi ate up his lead in the semi that it wouldn't pan out.
