Can you please tell what exactly carbohydrate loading is - I don't understand if it is abstaining from carbs for a few days then eating heaps, or just eating them as much as possible for a few days before a race.

Also (sorry to be stupid) - what are shin splints - are they a pain on the inside of the lower leg (ie above the foot)??

Thanks

Hi,

Carbo loading is pretty much your second guess -- loading up on carbos for several days leading up to a race. Their is much disagreement as to whether or not it works, but I look at it more in terms of carbos generally being easier foods to digest.

Shin splints is a very general term, and any medical type will tell you it's completely incorrect. Anyway, it usually refers to the area you described, but it can also be the front or outer side of the lower leg.
