I believe MJ will be competing at Walnut.

She still has to shrug off the drug accusations (True or not) which seem to be the talking point particularly in Europe rather than her running.

It,s a shame her career has descended down this path as she is such a graceful and talented athlete it just doesn't make any sense for someone like her to use drugs.

I am sure we will see clean performances from her (assuming she was not running clean before), so it will be interesting to gauge her early season form.

Any predictions on the time?

I believe she will run sub-51 just as she has always done when running in her normal early-season 400m at Mt.Sac (1998: 50.36, 1999: 50.79, 2000: 49.59PR, 2002: 50.46. She had an attempt on the 300m WR in 2001, but feel short with a 35.68PR clocking)

Are there any startlists up yet? I cannot seem to find any. Thanks in advance to anyone with a link to the startlists

Seems like child-birth and drug allegations have proved a physical and mental drain. Her preperations have obviously not gone well.

I do not like to write her off after one race but is the best of marion jones now all in the past?.

The past couple years, we've questioned repeatedly if Marion and Tim (to varying extents) had any remaining sense of reality. It looks more and more like the answer is a resounding NO. In Marion's position (notoriety, drug suspicions, and past level of performance), how do you line up in a high visibility meet if you're not certain you're in much better shape than that?

That race was horrible ... She was in it for 200 ... By 250 it was all over ... She had no zip, no pop, no nothin ... Looked a tad heavy ...

I said it this time last year (and everyone laughed) and I'm sayin it again ... She is done ... And I'm not sure what people are expecting ... Her last "decent" season was back in 2002 ... And her last "elite" (as in she was really better than everyone else) was 2000 ... She hasn't been under 22 or 10.80 since 2000, and her PRs are from 1998 ... Why does anyone expect her to come out now and dominate ????

No.
I think that it is time to put fork in this lemon and follow the chef with a laud:
Bum!!!
I do believe that she did get away with a lot.
She should be happy.
It may be that her post--pro fund has run low, but if I were her, I would love to quit, and become a coach.
If she is trying to prove her innocence, she must be nuts; even if, she is innocent.

I think that her only chances are in the relays and the broad jump. Wink

I'm not even sure I would want to have her on my relay ... Last year's Olympics being a prime example .. That pass wasn't made because Marion was unable to push through the zone ...

And her long jump skills have always been suspect .... And not being able to generate great speed is going to hurt her tremendously as that was her greatest asset in the event ...

With all the finger pointing she's done, and the likelihood she won't even make it through the season (health and legal stuff), she wouldn't be my first choice of someone to build a relay squad around.

With jones a possible no-go and kelly white out the us has a weakened team and will find it tough against the russians but particularly the jamaican quartet who are looking hot.

I believe that you are wrong. This time, for the first time in many years, the U.S. female 4 x 100 m relay will be a team in the truest meaning of the word. The best chance of coming back with a medal for the U.S. female dashers (short sprints) will be in the relay competition.

At this stage of her career, I would not like her on any relay either, except running in an amateur competition for a charity. Her nasty personality traits started showing already after the scandal involving her ex--husband C.J. Brown. After the Balco scandal almost obliterated her career, the worst part of her personality is coming out. She is not only going down as an athlete, but as a personality and person.
She would do well to quit.
I have this lingering suspicion that she did, at least at the subconscious level, make the U.S. relay lose the relay out of spite: ‘if I cannot be great, why should these poor @#$%^&s come back with the gold medals?’
If she would repeat the same mistake this year or any other year in the future, I would expect her to leave the post--competition conference mugged by the other relay members.
