hello,
my name is david. i've just started jogging and have a few questions you might be able to help me with.
should i keep track of my jogging by time or distance?
i'm eating a lot of protein based foods to gain weight will jogging make me loose the muscle mass i'm trying to gain or will it just be the fat that i'll loose?
will jogging help me tone my stomach?
and finally.........
can you set up a programme for me based on this info >>>>>>>> although i've never been jogging/running before, i've always played football and kept fit. i can jog without stopping for 25 mins and keep up a conversation meaning i don't get out of too much out of breathe.
thankyou for any help! |

Unless you can come up with a reason why it matters, I would say it doesn't.

In general, running will simply trim you down. It doesn't know what to target... If you're doing aerobic work, the tendency will be to slim down muscle, but it can be countered by lifting heavier and keeping the running more on the anaerobic (high intensity) side.

Yes, but not as well as a good diet will.

I fail to see what the question or goal is...

David, A lot of the answers to your questions will depend on what your goals are. Is it general fitness? Do you want to race? Are there specific fitness requirements you need to meet? Give us a little more info and we will be glad to help you with a program.

If your goals are simply appearance, then the type of training doesn't much matter, so long as you're active and eating well. On the other hand, if you're looking to hit certain performance levels, then a specific training plan can be very beneficial.

I'm in favor of balanced eating, so to be honest, I don't consider your diet to be "good eating."
But if you're already eliminated most of the unhealthy stuff from your diet, the key to toning down is steadily upping your level of exercise. Jogging will help with that as much as anything, but you'll get better results if you step the intensity up a few notches.

Couldn't tell ya. Everyone's metabolism is different, as is there idea of effort level. I refrain from any such guess work if I can't see someone in person.
