Not because I didn't want them to win, but because I picked them back in February as odds on favorites to win the title and thought seriously about putting money on them before the playoffs started. With each win, I was kicking myself more and more for not looking into how to go about that... 5-1 underdogs at the start of the finals ... imagine what the odds would have been prior to the playoffs! The thinking was to put $100 on them to make the Finals (90% likely, I figured) and $100 to win (50%), making what I thought to be a near guarantee of breaking even and probably enough winnings in hindsight to nearly pay for the car I just bought and can't really afford...

I almost wish they hadn't won...

Now Dan ... You should know by now to go with your GUT !!! For most people their gut is usually the way they should go ...

Course being a Kings fan it hurt me just as much .... Cause the Kings should have been in that final instead of the Lakers !!!

Cheer up ... At least you still have the cool car !!!

Definitely, go with your gut... I just wasn't sure how to go about placing the bet. Travelling to Vegas wasn't in the plans, and I'm a bit leery of throwing money at internet casinos with no knowledge of how reputable they are.

Great car, just can't drive it... Registration nightmares with no end in sight. CA and OR DMVs don't work particularly well together...

The trip to Vegas would have only taken you 2 hrs, 3, max, even with the Protege! Wink
Sorry to hear about the DMV problems.

True, I probably could've made good time. Would've required a change of wheels for the Protege, though.

In case you're wondering what a car registration nightmare consists of, read and cringe.

My god ... Why all the drama ??? Never thougt it could be that tough to register a car ... A receipt of sale and previous title signed over aren't enough ??? You would think that the state would want to get it straightened out ... Of course registration in OR seems to be a formality since they can't be doing it for the money ... Is it still $42 for 2 years ???

$65, I think.

This ordeal is quickly setting new standards for measures of futility... I'm waiting for my Bill of Sale to arrive back up here and then I'm headed down to Yreka, CA (~4 hours each way) to get the brake/lamp/smog inspection done so that the car will once again exist as a car in CA's system, and hopefully get it registered while down there. I'm *told* by CA DMV it will definitely work, but I've also been *told* by CA DMV it isn't necessary... Who to believe? Rolling Eyes

Just a bunch of beaurocratic paperwork b.s.

Sorry about that ... Definitely a lot of crap for nothing ... Part of the State of California ... Once my kids are out of school I am going to leave the State and go somewhere else ...

Lived in Tennessee for a couple of years in the early 90's ... Wasn't too bad, but southern living took a bit of getting used to after having grown up in California ...

Have lots of relatives in Oregon and Washington and for years they've been trying to get me to move there ...

But one thing California has that no other state has is tons of track and field .. That and the fact I want my girls to grow up around their grandmmother keeps me here ...

There's a house for sale on my street. Smile Pennies on the dollar compared to what you're used to down there. I'm not sure we can meet your expectations for meets, but Pre and adidas are both within shouting distance...

CA DMV is so bad, the last couple times I've called, it takes 1-1.5 hours just to get past the busy signal! Once you finally get connected, it's typically another half hour wait to get someone on the other end.

Hmmmm ... Might reduce my mortgage costs ... But my travel costs would sure soar !!!!

Now if the Trials were semi permanently relocated to Eugene THAT might be an inducement ... Wink ... Yeah, DMV here is pretty bad ... They finally went to a system where you can either "drop in" to a field office OR if you are a busy person make an appointment ... I had to renew my drivers license this year (which basically amounted to me going in signing a form and taking a new picture) ... I thought I would be efficient with my time and make an appointment ... Even with an appointment I had a 45 m inute wait !!! They have a scrolling sign in the office that tells you how long the wait is with and appointment and without ... At the time there was a 50 minute wait if you had an appointment and 2 hours and 15 minutes if you were a drop in !!!! Unbelievable ...

Sorry dude ... I've always heard that high end sports cars are a lot of work !!!! Wink ...

Have you tried contacting Arnold's office ??? Seriously ... He's supposedly big against bloated government ... And if this isn't the ultimate in bloated government then I don't know what is ... Perhaps his office can expedite the situation ...

I was half thinking about doing that (while starting at his smiling mug up on the wall at DMV), but thought it would be just as difficult to reach someone there... Know any good means of contact?
