All GP events? Whew, that would be a lot of work. Surprised As it is, I'm not terribly encouraged by how light the participation has been leading up to this year's contest. No response at all from last year's participants, other than the forum regulars.

I am against including all GP events not necessarily because it would make Dan work too hard, but because it would make the entire outcome of the competition too random. In my opinion that would be unfair.

This doesn't necessarily mean people won't be entering the contest. I know I can win no matter what the rules of the contest are Cool

Good attitude. Smile Still, I'm heavily discouraged by the lack of response...

Knowing you, I know that your self-confidence is excused. However, in my case, making it into the top 40 would be a success.

I like the way things are sounding in respect to the events and everything. I do think all the GP events would be tough work for dan though. I like the idea of maybe a few bonus events for the Olympics though. Maybe picked just for that. Dan thanks for doing something so great though. I have done this for the past 2 years and am looking forward to again this year. I have improved tremendously and am hoping to win it all this year. hopefully with some expereience I am now ready.

Thanks for the kind words.

I don't have a good way of doing bonus events for the Olympics, due to the automated system for athlete selection and scoring.

I think the contest will be fine ... Talk about track has been light all over the internet ... I think the negativity of the drug situation has quieted many ... But this is one of the FUN things regarding the sport ... I think folks will turn out like last year if not more ...

Would it be possible to have the Olympics as a meet, but for the points to count double ??? Make the Olympics worth more ???

I'd have to do some tinkering after the scoring to make it work...

Giving double points for the big meet of the year was one of my suggestions last year, so I second Conway on that. My other suggestion from 2003 (including the World Athletics Final) has now been acted upon... I guess the one problem I have with this year's setup is the lack of field events - how about including at least one more, in addition to women's HJ ?

There are two major limiting factors:

1) GL status. If it ain't GL, it doesn't get contested enough to work.

2) Accurate scoring models -- hit or miss on the field events.

Speaking as one who has been silent, I can say that I AM looking forward to the Fantasy League kicking off again. Perhaps you're not hearing from more of us becuase we have never really understood how the scoring works but enjoy the comp anyway... Or alternatively we can't remember how to login to this forum (that's my ongoing issue hence the guest status)...

I don't understand what the issue is with scoring the field events. Don't you just use the decath scoring tables or a modified version thereof? I would have thought there are less variables to worry about - they throw/jump fairly consistently around a certain level. If we included men's triple and women's high would that make for some fun or just headaches?

Anyway, bring it on...

That's the kind of response I was hoping for...

To be honest, after 2+ years since having worked on it, I can barely remember the scoring issues. It had to do with how well the scoring models available (mostly from multis tables) for each event predicted comparable performances relative to the WR and/or best performances in an average year. There was a very, very lengthy process detailed in the original Fantasy T&F thread:

http://run-down.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=566

Halfway down page 3 looks to be one of the pertinent posts.

Yeah we kind of made our own scoring system as I remember ... Started with something and it has been modified and evolved since ...

But lets get ready to rumble !!!
