My main goal is to create a training schedule and stick to it. I lost over 40 lbs. last year, and . . . am going no where. I am trying to establish some base for the upcoming summer/fall season, and try to incorporate as much of hill workouts as possible.
Last year, I participate in one semiofficial race over one mile. My goals are to:
--1) get schedule,
--2) find as many as possible official mile races,
--3) participate in at least three mile races, one 5 K, and possibly in the 4 x 400 m in the NJ Championships 2004.
My progress can be watched closely at www.geocities.com/dekolak

What is the blood type diet. I am unfamiliar with it.

I think the best known book based on it (or vice versa?) is Eat Right for Your [blood] Type.

The blood--type diet is a diet that tells you to eat food accordingly to your blood type and Rh. The cornerstone of this diet is the belief in that different blood types and Rh., or blood chemistry, lead to different metabolism and different food intolerance (allergies). To be honest, yes it is not a FAD diet. It does not claim that the diet alone will make you fit. However, it does claim that the diet will make you healthier. The blood--type diet is the only diet that allowed me to loose weight (two years ago between January and April about 20 lbs) at a slow pace when combined with exercise, and recently, at a fast pace when combined with exercise, and slightly decreased caloric intake. Two years ago, I stopped following the diet due to the on--job stress.
Some scientific support for the basic principle of the blood--type diet does exist. The main mistake people make about this diet is that you should learn it all, foods in the toxin--like, food--like, and medicin--like groups, and follow exactly. You should try to avoid all the toxin--like foods, and try eat all the medicin--like foods. However, you are an unique individual, and you should use your past experience, and simple logic to adjust the diet to your needs, and likings.

I got a race schedule: March 7 - Newark, NJ, 5 K (part of 20 K Classic and 5k events); 800 m race in the New Jersey championships June or July; and 1 mile official race in Fall or Winter.

Well, in spite of my neophyte approach to practice, and possibly because of my recent weight loss, I improved. My training times over the Weequahic 2.2 miles hilly course have went down from about 21 to 24 minutes to 18 to 20 minutes.
Being in rush to pickup my 18-year-old stepdaughter, and get her to school, I was ALMOST able to finish in sub 17 minutes. ALMOST because like the jogger in front of me, I did slowdown seeing a pitbull that was apparently charging at us, but in fact, the pitbull was running back to his or her master.
My runs:
FEBRUARY:
15: 2.2 Weequahic in 19:00 Strong Wind and circa 35 F or less
14: 2.2 Weequahic in circa 18:30 Circa 40 F and Windless + the dog slowdown
13: 500 m in 2+ minutes and 700 m in 3:00 minutes -- an attempt at interval practice
12: 2.2 Weequahic in sub 21 minutes.

Any races in the near future?

5 K in Newark, in early March, that is going to be held before the 20 K Classic.

I feel sick, but yesterday, I tried to run some 500, 200, and 200 m intervals, and finished off with 1600 m in sub 8:30.

____Yesterday, 02/25/2004, I ran 1600 m as a better warm-up in sub 8:00 minutes. Afterwards, I worked on my top speed: 7 x (circa) 32 yards from different initial positions trying to pay attention to the proper form, and initialization of movement: biggest muscle first etc. I am almost healthy, but not yet.
I will try a workout that I have been intuitively doing most of the time, and that is dedicated to increasing one's lactic threshold: running 30 to 35 minutes 5 x a week at 85 to 90% effort with surges to nearly 100% heart rate in the middle, and at the end of the run.

I tried to run intervals today. I ran 7 x 200 m at an acceptable pace. I finished off with slightly over a mile run at a nice pace. I feel healthy enough to participate in the race in March.

Good, do you have a particular time goal?

I treat my time goal with a Wink.
I am going to be happy, if I will finish 5K in 24 minutes. However, I would not make any particular prediction. I have not run in any official race since I was fifteen.
I know, I can get sub 18 5K, but as the time passes my motivation to push myself is weathering. Neutral

On Sunday, I ran 3 x circa 2.2 miles of the Weequahic Path in Weequahic Park in Newark, NJ, and finished with 1600 m in Elizabeth/Roselle on track.

Today, March 2, 2004, I put most attention to stretching and drills. Afterwards, I ran a quick 1600 m.
